Abstract

Clutches, friction.-A combined free-wheel and positive clutch is arranged in or directly connected to the friction clutch of a motor vehicle, the positive clutch being disconnected when desired so that the driven shaft can over-run the driving shaft. The flywheel A carries a multiplate friction clutch, the driven member B of which encloses a one-way roller clutch E connecting it to the driven shaft D. A sleeve F keyed on the shaft D slides in a bearing J in the pressure-plate K of the friction clutch and has dog-teeth G adapted to engage similar teeth H on the friction clutch member B so as to lock this member to the shaft. The friction and positive clutches are operated by a collar on the sleeve F, the first movement of the sleeve disengaging the dog-teeth so that the drive is transmitted through the one-way clutch E, further movement of the sleeve disengaging the friction clutch.
