Clutches, friction; operating.-In clutch gear for use on motor-driven lawn mowers &c., a clutch plate 3 on the driven sleeve 4 is adapted to be clutched by a plate 1 splined to the driving- shaft 2 and pressed to clutching position by springs 8 bearing against a sleeve 11 slidable on or secured to the shaft. Pins 13, 16 on rings 12, 15 bearing against the parts 1, 11 pass through slots in a stationary casing sleeve 19 and are engaged by links 23, the ends 24, 25 of which are pivoted upon a floating operating-lever 21 working in a gate at the mower handles. Endthrust upon the shafts during clutch disengagement is thereby prevented. According to the Provisional Specification, a clutch may be provided at each end of the shaft, both clutches being operated by the same lever and springs.
