Abstract

498,583. Friction clutches; reversing- gearing. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROMS ANGTURBIN. May 21, 1938, No. 15201. Convention date, May 21, 1937. [Class 80 (ii)] In a double friction clutch comprising a common pressure plate 34 rotating with the driving member 12 and interposed between the two driven discs 24 and 25 and adapted to be moved so as to clamp the disc 24 against the member 12 or the disc 25 against a cover-plate 13 secured to the member 12, the plate 34 is connected by a link 37 to one arm of a lever 38 pivoted on the cover 13, the other arm of the lever being formed with diverging limbs 42 co-operating with a roller 43 carried by a stem 47 slidable in a sleeve 49 which is also pivoted on the cover 13 and which houses a spring 52 urging the stem outwards. The stem is connected by a link 56 to a sleeve 57 which is slidable axially, between stops 59 and 60, on an extension 58 of the cover 13 under the control of a hand lever 66. With the sleeve 57 in the neutral position shown, the two clutches are held disengaged, while as the sleeve 57 is moved in one or the other direction the corresponding clutch is engaged under the action of the spring 52. In the engaged position, the stem 47 is substantially at rightangles to the corresponding limb 42, whereby engagement is maintained. As applied to a reversing gear, the disc 24 is splined on a shaft 15 carrying a gear 19 meshing with an internal gear 20 carried by a driven shaft 21, while the disc 25 is splined on a sleeve 27 carrying a gear 30 meshing with a gear 31 on a countershaft carrying a gear 33 meshing with the gear 20.
