Abstract

652,488. Reversing gearing. KROGH, A. A., and KROLDRUP, A. July 1, 1948, No. 17782. Convention date, July 8,1947. [Class 80(ii)] In epicyclic reversing gearing wherein the planet carrier 20 is clutched to the driven shaft 3 for forward drive and braked for reverse, the clutch 10 is actuated through spring-loaded bell-crank levers 12 coacting with a coned sleeve 15 slidable on the shaft 3 by an eccentric pin 19 on the end of a control spindle 17 which also carries a pair of rollers 23 coacting with a pair of spring-loaded levers 5 connected to the ends of the brake band 4, the whole being enclosed within a gear box 1 from which the spindle 17 projects. The fulcrums 6 of the lever 5 are connected by adjustable screw means 7. The rollers 23 are carried between a pair of discs 21 on the spindle 17, the lower disc having a projection 21a coacting with adjustable screws 25 to limit the rotation of the spindle in either direction. In the one limiting position shown in Fig. 2, the brake is engaged to give reverse drive, the rollers 23 being just past dead-centre position. In the other limiting position, both clutch and brake are disengaged and no drive is transmitted, while in an intermediate position the clutch is engaged, giving forward drive.
