Abstract
484,394. Clutches. DEUTSCHE SCHIFFUND MASCHINENBAU AKT.- GES. Dec. 22, 1937, No. 35496. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1936. [Class 80 (ii)] The driven member B of a hydraulic coupling is, together with its shaft E, urged towards the cover C, secured to the driving member A, by a spring F, such movement being controlled by a sleeve H splined on the shaft E and co-operating with a shoulder Q on the shaft. The sleeve H is moved by a nut N actuated by a screwed spindle M and acting on the sleeve through a spring K and a lever P. With the nut in the starting position shown, a slipping drive is . transmitted through the hydraulic coupling. On turning the hand-wheel L so as to move the nut N to the right, the sleeve H moves to the right so as to allow the spring F to act and engage a friction clutch D between the members B, C. The parts A, E are thus synchronized. On moving the nut further to the right, a dog clutch J between the parts C, H is engaged, whereby a positive drive from the member A to the shaft E is transmitted. If the dogs J are not in register, the spring K is compressed until slip in the friction clutch permits the dogs to engage.
