Abstract
555,869. Fluid-pressure servomator-control systems. VINCENT, H. R. D. CO., Ltd., and VINCENT, P. C. Jan. 6, 1942, No. 215. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXIV] A clutch is engaged and disengaged by fluid pressure admitted to one side or other of a piston 19 reciprocable in a closed cylinder 18. The latter is integral with a drum 11 fixed to a driven gear 14 and carries clutch plates 10. Intermediate clutch plates 12 are splined to a hub 13 fixed to a driving shaft 17 on which the piston 19 and a thrust plate 24 are slidable. Fluid pressure is admitted from a conduit 37 to either side of the piston 19 through ports 35, 36, by a valve 38 slidable in an open ended passage 34. The lands 39, 40 of the valve 38 are narrower than the ports 35, 36, and are such that only one of the ports 35, 36 may be connected with the conduit 37, or both of them may be partly open to the conduit 37. The valve is moved by a lever 50 upon operation of a rod 52 the lever 50 being connected by a thrust bearing member 46 to a rod 42 slidable with the shaft 17 and having a cross-pin 44 passing through slots in the shaft 17 and engaging the thrust plate 24. The valve rod 53 has stops 57, 58 thereon. Thus, if there is no supply of fluid pressure, a spring 26 will engage the clutch, and disengagement will be effected by a downward movement of the rod.
