Abstract
920,701. Friction clutches. B. W. DAWE & CO. Ltd. June 30, 1959 [July 2, 1958], No. 21186/58. Class 80 (2). An hydraulically operated friction clutch comprises interengaging friction discs 17, 20 splined respectively to a hub 2 and a sleeve 18 of a gear pinion 19 and clamped between a back plate 3 integral with the hub 2 and a presser plate 4, by fluid pressure applied to a chamber 5 defined by an inner cylinder 1 integral with the hub 2 and an outer cylinder 6, a flange 7 of which is pressed by a nut 8 against the cylinder 1 which bears on a shoulder 10 of a shaft 9. The clutch is disengaged by a release spring 16. The presser plate 4 is counterbored at 12 and has splines 13 engaging the splines on the hub 2.
