Abstract
Un procedimiento para la preparación del nitrilo de ácido 2-hidroxi-4-(metiltio)butírico, en el que en una zona de reacción principal se hace reaccionar el 3-metilmercapto-propionaldehído con cianuro de hidrógeno en presencia de una base como catalizador para formar el nitrilo, y unas cantidades residuales del cianuro de hidrógeno gaseoso (HCN), que abandonan la zona de reacción principal, se absorben y hacen reaccionar ulteriormente en una zona de absorción y reacción posterior, que contiene una mezcla de 3-metilmercapto-propionaldehído y del catalizador y facultativamente del nitrilo de ácido 2-hidroxi-4-(metiltio) butírico.
