Abstract

Se da a conocer un método para la producción de 2-hidroxi-4-(metiltio)butironitrilo, en el cual el 3-metilmercaptopropionaldehído se hace reaccionar con cianuro de hidrógeno en presencia de una base como catalizador en una zona de reacción principal para formar el nitrilo y cantidades residuales de cianuro de hidrógeno gaseoso las cuales cuando salen de la zona de reacción principal son absorbidas en una zona de absorción y post-reacción que contiene una mezcla de 3-metilmercaptopropionaldehído y catalizador y opcionalmente 2-hidroxi-4-(metiltio)butironitrilo y se hacen reaccionar adicionalmente.
