Definitions

  • the invention relates to a radiolucent body support which can be used as part of the lying surface in a patient couch intended for radiation therapy, consisting of a frame with a transparent covering, a central web of the frame dividing the supporting surface into two wings.
  • This body support is used instead of part of the normal lying surface if the patient's body part to be treated is to be irradiated in a treatment phase both directly and from the underside of the support, for which purpose a radiation source, e.g. an X-ray apparatus, which is movable on a circular path in a vertical plane.
  • a radiation source e.g. an X-ray apparatus
  • the wings should be transparent so that the treatment beam can be visibly aligned with the treatment area optically marked on the body part using a pilot light and corrected in the event of unforeseen changes in the patient's position.
  • a known body support of the type mentioned has a rectangular frame with a central web that divides the support into two wings. For each wing, the frame carries a covering made of crossed strings which are anchored to frame parts running in parallel.
  • the frame must be of stable construction to absorb the clamping forces. This requires a material thickness for the frame parts that dampens the radiation too much. The frame is therefore on the side in a backdrop - 2nd
  • a radiolucent body support in which, according to the invention, the frame is H-shaped and at least one of the wings is provided with a covering which is anchored exclusively on the two parallel spars which are connected to one another by the central web. This eliminates the frame parts, which are disruptive due to their radiation-damping effect, and no means for lateral displacement of the frame are required.
  • the spars of the H-shaped frame preferably have a pretension so that they run parallel to one another under the force of the covering.
  • At least one string made of radiation-resistant material for example made of plastic, is provided for covering the wing, which stretches the wing in parallel sections with uniform intervals in a meandering course. • the covering can be covered with a transparent, radiation-resistant cover film, which is also between the two bars the frame is clamped.
  • Another possibility is to provide a one-part or multi-part, transparent carrier film instead of strings for the covering, which can be reinforced at most on the outer edge connecting the ends of the two spars by a string covering.
