UNITED STATES EMANUEL LOLMAUGI-I, OF BELOIT, WISCONSIN.
COMBINATION HEADREST AND TABLE FOR, INVALIDS BEDS.
Application led June 4, 1924. Serial No. 717,790.
To all 'zo/1.0m t ymay concern Be it known that I, EMANUEL LOLMAUGH,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Beloit, in the county of Rock and State of l lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Headrests and Tables for Invalids Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invent-ion relates to combined head rests and tables for invalid beds, and the like, and has for one of its objects lto improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, including a head rest and a table mutually adjustable, and collapsible or foldable into small space when not in use.
l/Vith these and other objects in View the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustra tive of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, and
Figure 2 is a plan View, of the improved device.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3- of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 1 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional detail of the adjustable coupling or joint between the head rest support and the table support.
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional detail of the adjustable coupling or joint between the table portion and one of its supports or leus.
tFigure 7 is an enlarged sectional detail of one of the couplings or joints between the base support and the head rest frame.
The improved device comprises a base frame including spaced side or rail members 10 and 11, a rear transverse member 12 and intermediate transverse members 13 and 14, the side rails 10 and 11 extending in advance of the transverse member 13, and perforated to receive a pivot pin 15. Mounted to swing at the ends of its spaced sides on the pins 15 is a U-shaped support or frame 16, the latter provided with a flexible closure or blanket member 17 of canvas or the like and secured to the frame preferably by iacings 18.
Slidably engaging the side members of the frame 16 are head or block members 19, each block having a threaded stud extending therefrom, one of the studs being represented at 20.
Mounted to swing on each of the studs 20 is another head member 21, and leading from the head members 21 is another U-shaped member 22, the latter extending by its horizontal portion transversely of the base members 10 and 11.
Mounted respectively on the members 10 and 11 are notched bars 23 and 24 to receive the horizontal portion of the member 22' and thus adjustably support the latter.
The member 22 thus serves as an adjustable brace to support the frame 16 and its canvas clothing 17 at any desired inclina- 'tion relative to the base support.
Engaging each of the studs 2O is an internally threaded clamp member 25, oper-` ating to hold the member 21 from rotating on the stud. Formed on the outer end of each of the clamp members 25 is a threaded projection, one of which is shown at 26 in Figure 5, to receive a nut member 27, the object to be hereafter explained.
The base member is designed to be located upon an invalids bed or couch, with the frame 16 and .its canvas clothing 17 arranged to support the patient in a partially reclining position, and is adjustable to provide any desired inclination by locating the horizontal portion of the brace member in the notches 23-24 as willbe obvious.
A guard strip 28 is arranged over each notched bar, as shown, to prevent accidental displacement of the brace member.
The table portion and its support includes a third U-shaped frame having spaced side members 29-30, and transverse connecting members 31 and 32. The side members 29 and 30 extend at the rear ends through a'pertures or guideways in the clamp members 25 and are clamped in position b v the clamp nuts 27, as illustrated in Figure 5.
The platform portion of the table is represented as a whole at 33, and with open channels in its edges to receive the members 29, 80, 31 and 32 as shown.
The table supporting member 32 is extended at the ends and threaded as shown at 35, to receive clamp nuts 36, Mounted to swing at 37 on the extended ends of the member 32 are supports orV legs 38, each having a laterally extended foot o r base 39,
to insure stability, the legs being clamped in positionY by the nuts 36, as illustrated in' Figure 6.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured, of any suitable size or material.
The preferred embodiment' of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the speciiicationl` but it' Will be understood that modifications Within the scope, of the claimed in theE construction without departing from the. principle of the invention4 or sacriiicing any of itsA advantages'.
Having thus described the `invention, what is claimed as, new is:
l.. In a, device of the class described, a base portion including notched bars, a support-ing Jframe]including spacedy sides and swinging at one end from said base, block members slidable upon said frame sides4 and eachfhavingfa -threaded stud, a brace memf Vber swinging on each ot said studs and. ad-
justably engaging the notchedbar, and meansoperative to clamp the braces to the blockI inerribers.4
lIngaV device of the class described, a
invention 1n ay be made.
base including notched bars, a supporting frame including spaced; Isides and' lswinging at one end on said base, block members apertured to slidably engage said spaced frame sides andi each having a threaded stud, a member swinging on each of said studsy andy adj-ustably engaging the notches of the base, a table device including spaced side supports rotatably engaging said studs, and means operative to clamp the frame sides and the table supports together'.
3. In a device of the class'f described, a base portion, a supporting 'frame including spaced sides and swinging upon said base', blockV members slidable upon said frame sides and eachl having a threaded stud, bracr` members swinging on saidv studs and ad` justa-bly engagi'ngV the base, a tableV device including spaced side supports, head inembers threaded to engage said studs and apertured to slidably, receive said table supports, and means operative to clamp the-'braces to the side supports 03E` t-he table.-
Inf testimony7 whereof, I aiiix my signature hereto. Y
