Definitions
- the invention relates to a two-component diazotype material comprising a layer support and at least one light-sensitive layer which contains the diazonium salt, coupling component, acid stabilizer and a compound which absorbs in the ultraviolet spectral range.
- Two-component diazo materials are known. They essentially consist of a layer with at least one light-sensitive diazonium salt and at least one coupling component which couples in an alkaline medium with the diazonium salt to form an azo dye.
- the photosensitive layer of diazotype materials can consist of one or more layers, each layer containing at least one diazonium salt and at least one coupling component. They also usually contain other additives, such as acid stabilizers to prevent premature dye coupling, thiourea to improve the image background, sterically hindered phenols to increase the lightfastness of the azo dyes and other additives common in the diazo type.
- Diazotype materials have a very steep gradation and therefore provide copies with very high contrast. They are therefore particularly well suited for improving reproductions, for example line drawings, book copies and other large-area black-and-white copies, such as halftone halftone images, since the diazonium salt is generally completely destroyed in the areas hit by the actinic radiation in the imagewise exposure. Due to this property, diazo materials are normally not suitable for the reproduction of halftone originals, since they do not reproduce details in the bright areas of the image in the correct tone.
- the less photosensitive diazonium compound remains undecomposed for longer, which weakens the contrast in the image areas with lower density.
- this process has the disadvantage that the diazonium salt pairs used with different light sensitivities also form dyes with different hues and also couple at different speeds. This leads to the formation of a color image, in which a different color tone is produced at high density than at low density (• two-tone •).
- Another disadvantage is that the copy speed is adversely affected due to the presence of the less photosensitive diazonium salt.
- Diazotype materials are known from German Patents 1 204 069 (corresponding to GB-PS 871 216) and 1 263 505 (corresponding to US-PS 3 365 296), with which it is possible to reproduce halftone originals with almost correct tonal values.
- the diazo material according to DE-PS 1 204 069 has a multilayer structure, one of these layers being a UV-absorbing layer.
- the diazotype material described in DE-PS 1 263 505 is composed only of a layer which, in addition to the diazonium salt and the coupling component, contains an ultraviolet light-absorbing compound, which effectively absorbs radiation in the spectral range from 300 to 460 nm and is thus modified by actinic radiation that it can no longer absorb the radiation in this spectral range.
- a diazotype material for the reproduction of halftone originals which, as an ultraviolet light absorbing compound, contains a special pyrylium or thiapyrylium salt which is completely bleachable in an alkaline medium and has a relatively wide exposure tolerance and hardly any discoloration in the bright image areas.
- the material consists of several superposed photosensitive layers, each of which contains at least one diazonium salt and at least one coupling component and of which at least one of these layers contains the pyrylium or thiapyrylium salt which is bleachable in an alkaline medium as an ultraviolet light absorbing compound.
- the pyrylium or thiapyrylium salts are obtained, for example, from acetophenone and benzaldehyde in 3 or 4 very complex process steps in yields of only about 20 to 30%, based on the starting materials, fe (K. Dimroth, Angew. Chem. , 72, vol. 1960 "No. 10, pages 331-342). Because of the relatively difficult accessibility of these pyrylium and thiapyrylium salts, they are of commercial use of a corresponding diazo material set limits.
- a diazo material which, in order to increase the photosensitivity of diazo compounds, sensitizers of the most diverse chemical compound classes, among others. contains a dimethylaminophenyl-benzothiazole, the absorption maximum of which lies in a spectral range which extends from the absorption maximum of the diazo compounds to a wavelength which is only about 60 nm shorter.
- a flat gradation cannot be achieved with such a material, nor can it be deduced from this how a two-component diazotype material must be designed in order to provide a material which is exhibited with a flat gradation.
- a diazotype material which contains on one side a light-sensitive layer which is stabilized with 5-sulfonic acid and on the back with a u.a. Layer containing benzothiazole and then additionally provided with a light-sensitive layer.
- the material relates to yellow to pale yellow UV absorbers for diazomicrofilms with an absorption range between 366 and 404 nm to be duplicated with the correct tone.
- Colored salts are neither present nor are colorless leucobases formed after the general development. This document does not explain how a material with a flat gradation must be designed.
- the object of the present invention was to provide a flat gradation diazotype material which is suitable for the reproduction of halftone originals, which delivers high-quality halftone copies with no or only very weak background discoloration and of which further copies without loss of copying speed without major losses in quality can be made.
- the material should be easy and inexpensive to manufacture in terms of process technology.
- Examples of the compounds which can be used in the diazotype material according to the invention and absorb light in the range from approximately 320 to 450 nm are compiled in the attached formula table, the base ("leuco base") on which the color salt in question is based in each case being characterized by its melting point
- Leuco bases are known and some are commercially available and can be prepared by condensing R a- substituted o-amino-thiophenols with p-amino-benzaldehydes substituted by R and R 2 , optionally in the presence of an oxidizing agent [RC EIderfield, "Heterocyclic Compounds " . Vol. 5, 508ff or HP Lankelma et al., J. Amer. Chem. Soc.
- benzothiazole compounds suitable as according to the invention are mentioned in DE-OS 2 333 378. They are described there as chromogenic substances for pressure-sensitive recording materials, in particular for copy papers which carry microcapsules which can be broken open by pressure on the sheet surface.
- the capsules contain a solution of the chromogenic substance which, when released from the capsules, reacts with an acidic substance on the same or a different sheet to form a dye. It was not to be expected that these Leuco compounds could be incorporated in diazotype compositions without coating and application-related disadvantages and used as light-absorbing compounds.
- Preferred starting materials for the synthesis of the benzothiazole-leuco compounds according to the invention are e.g. B. as 2-amino-thiophenols: 2-amino-thiophenol and 5-methyl-2-amino-thiophenol; as 4-amino-benzaldehydes: 4-aminobenzaldehyde, 4-dimethylamino-benzaldehyde, 4-diethylamino-benzaldehyde, 4-N-methyl-N-benzylaminobenzaldehyde, 4-dibenzylamino-benzaldehyde, 4-N-methyl-N (2'- cyanoethylamino) benzaldehyde and 4-N-methyl-N (4'-methoxyphenylamino) benzaldehyde.

- R and R 2 are hydrogen and R 3 is hydrogen or a methyl group or R, hydrogen or a methyl group or R, hydrogen, R 2 is an optionally substituted benzyl group and R 3 is a methyl group .
- These benzothiazole compounds are particularly easily accessible. Their salts absorb in the spectral range from 365 to 440 nm and practically completely lose their absorption capacity in the alkaline medium with the formation of the corresponding benzothiazole bases.

Description
- 3-Methoxy-4-dimethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 3-Methoxy-4-diethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 3-Methoxy-4-N-pyrrolidino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 3-(n)-Butoxy-4-N-piperidino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2,5-Dimethoxy-4-N-morpholino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2,5-Diethoxy-4-N-morpholino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2,5-(n)-Dibutoxy-4-N-morpholino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2.5-Diethoxy-4-N-piperidino-benzo)diazoniumsalz,
- 2,5-(n)-Dibutoxy-4-N(4'-methyl)piperazino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2-Methyl-3-methoxy-4-dimethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2-Methyl-3-methoxy-4-N-morphol i no-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2-Chlor-3-methoxy-4-dimethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 2,3-Dimethoxy-4-dimethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz.
- 4-Dimethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-Diethylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-Dipropylamino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Morpholino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Pyrrolidino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Piperidino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Piperazino-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Ethyl-N-hydroxyethyl-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Methyl-N-benzyl-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Ethyl-N-hydroxyethyl-2-methyl-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-Diethyl-2-ethoxy-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-Diethyl-2-carboxy-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-N-Methyl-N-benzyl-2-trifluormethyl-benzoldiazoniumsalz,
- 4-Diethyl-2-chlor-benzoldiazoniumsalz.
Lackprobe A diente als Vergleich.
