Es ist bekannt (GB-PS 578312), daß gewisse organische
Zinnverbindungen als Wirkstoffe in Antifouling-Anstrichmitteln verwendet werden können.
Besonders wirksam sind dabei in dieser Hinsicht Trialkylzinnsalze von langkettigen Carbonsäuren, wie
z. B. Triäthylzinnstearat. Es ist weiterhin bekannt (US-PS 2253128 und US-PS 3016369), daß sich
Triorganozinnacrylate und -methacrylate polymerisieren lassen und daß diese Polymerisate für die verschiedensten
Zwecke verwendet werden können, beispielsweise zur Herstellung von Filmen, Folien,
Beschichtungsmassen und elastomeren Materialien. Diese Organozinnverbindungen können auch mit anderen
ungesättigten Verbindungen «!polymerisiert werden.
Es wurde nunmehr überraschenderweise festgestellt, daß sich bestimmte Polymere von Triorganozinnacrylaten
und -methacrylaten ausgezeichnet als Wirkstoffe in Antifouling-Anstrichmitteln verwenden
lassen. Dies ist deshalb überraschend, weil in Beispiel 9 der US-PS 3 016 369 angegeben ist, daß solche
Polymere ungiftig sind, weshalb es als überraschend gelten muß, daß solche Polymere eine Antifouling-Wirkung
entfalten.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist deshalb die Verwendung von Polymeren einer zinnorganischen Verbindung
der allgemeinen Formel

worin R für einen niedrigmolekularen Alkylrest, wobei die Gesamtzahl der Kohlenstoffatome in den drei
Resten R 6 bis 12, insbesondere 9 bis 12, ist und R' für eine polymerisierbare Vinyl- oder a-Methylvinylgruppe
steht, als Wirkstoff in Antifouling-Anstrichmitteln.
Die Reste R in den erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Polymeren müssen nicht untereinander gleich sein.
Die am meisten bevorzugten Polymere sind solche, die sich von Tri-n-butylzinnmethacrylat oder Tri-npropylzinnmethacrylat
ableiten.
Durch die Einverleibung von solchen polymeren organischen Zinnverbindungen in Antifouling-Anstrichmitteln
können diese durch den Angriff der verschiedensten Schädlinge geschützt werden. Beispiele
für solche Schädlinge sind Pilze, Bakterien, Schimmelpilze, Schleim, Schimmel und Wasserlebewesen,
wie Algen, Moorwürmer, Entenmuscheln usw.
Die monomeren Triorganozinnacrylate und -methacrylate können durch an sich bekannte Verfahren
hergestellt werden, beispielsweise durch Umsetzung eines entsprechenden Triorganozinnhydroxyds
mit Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure. Die Umsetzung
kann in einem Lösungsmittel, wie z. B. Benzol, unter Erhitzen des Reaktionsgemischs erfolgen, wobei das
als Nebenprodukt gebildete Wasser azeotrop abdestilliert. Das gewünschte Produkt wird gewöhnlich
durch Abdampfen des Lösungsmittels isoliert und in reiner Form in hoher Ausbeute erhalten.
Selbstverständlich kann in das erfindungsgemäß verwendete Polymer auch ein Comonomer einpolymerisiert
werden. Solche Comonomere sind z. B. Vinylmonomere wie Vinylchlorid, Styrol, p-Chlorstyrol,
Vinylacetat und Vinylbutyrat. Es ist aber auch möglich, Mischpolymerisate aus zwei oder mehr verschiedenen
Triorganozinnacrylaten bzw. -methacrylaten zu verwenden. .-
Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Polymere können durch verschiedene bekannte Methoden der radikalischen
Polymerisation hergestellt werden. Die Polymerisation kann z. B. in Masse, in Lösung, in
Emulsion oder in Suspension erfolgen. Die Polymerisation kann durch verschiedene radikalische Initiato- ;
ren gestartet werden, wie z. B. Benzylperoxyd. Die Polymerisation kann je nach dem verwendeten Katalysatorsystem
bei den verschiedensten Temperaturen durchgeführt werden.
Typische Antifouling-Anstrichmittel enthalten als ty
Anstrichgrundlage z. B. ein Phenylharz, ein Acrylharz oder ein Alkydharz. Die Anstrichmittel können auch ί
Pigmente, wie z. B. Titandioxyd, Eindickungsmittel, j wie z. B. Bentonit, Füllstoffe, wie z. B. Aluminiumsilikat
und Kalziumsilikat, sowie Trockner, wie z. B. j Kobaltnaphthenat und Mangannaphthenat, enthalten.
Die Astrichmittel enthalten normalerweise ein Lösungsmittel oder Verdünnungsmittel, wie z. B.
Testbenzin, Naphtha, Benzol, Toluol und Methyläthylketon. Die Wirkstoffe werden gemäß der Erfindung
im allgemeinen in einer Menge von 1 bis 30%, bezogen auf die Gesamtmasse, verwendet. Die Anstrichmittel
enthalten vorzugsweise 5 bis 12% Wirkstoff.
Eine spezielle Antifouling-Anstrichfarbe hat die folgende Zusammensetzung:

Die nachstehend genannten Polymerisate wurden
■.ο auf ihre antibakterielle Aktivität nach der Diffusionsmethode geprüft.
Bei diesem Test wurde ein Nährmedium geschmolzen und mit dem Testorganismus beimpft. Das beimpfte
Nährmedium wurde dann in eine Petrischale
v> gegossen und erstarren gelassen. Dann wurde mit einem Korkbohrer ein Loch mit einem Durchmesser
von 6 mm in der Mitte des Nährbodens ausgestochen. Hierauf wurde in dieses Loch das zu prüfende Material
gegeben. Die Petrischalen wurden 18 Stunden bei
Wi etwa 5° C im Kühlschrank stehengelassen und 24
Stunden bei 37° C bebrütet.
Der sich ausbildende Hemmhof in mm ist ein Anzeichen für die Aktivität des zu prüfenden Materials.
Hemmzonen mit der Bezeichnung »V« bedeuten, daß
h-i vollständige Hemmung des Bakterienwachstums erfolgt
ist. Hemmzonen mit dem Buchstaben »t« bedeuten, daß teilweise Hemmung des Bakterienwachstums
erfolgt ist. Die Bezeichnung »8v« z. B. bedeutet, daß

in einem Abstand von 8 mm vom Loch noch vollständige Hemmung auftrat.
In der nachstehenden Tabelle I sind die Ergebnisse dieses Tests unter Verwendung mehrerer polymerer
Triorganozinnacrylate bzw. -methacrylate angegeben. Die geprüften Polymerisate wurden durch die nachstehend
angegebenen großen Buchstaben bezeichnet. Polymerisat

Aus dieser Tabelle ist ersichtlich, daß die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten polymeren Triorganozinnacrylate
und -methacrylate eine hohe Aktivität gegen übliche Bakterien besitzen.
Die in nachstehender Tabelle II angegebenen Stoffe wurden gegen Pilzbefall nach der vorstehend
beschriebenen Diffusionsmethode geprüft. Bei diesem Verfahren wurden jedoch die Petrischalen vor
der Prüfung 5 Tage bei 28 bis 30° C bebrütet.
Die Testergebnisse sind in Tabelle II zusammenge-

Aus dieser Tabelle ist ersichtlich, daß die erfin-
i"> dungsgemäß verwendeten polymeren Triorganozinnacrylate
und -methacrylate sehr befriedigende Fungicide darstellen.
Zur Demonstration der Wirksamkeit eines erfindungsgemäß erhaltenen Anstrichmittels wurde wie
2i) folgt vorgegangen:
Bretter aus Fichtenholz der Größe 2,54 X 15,24 X 30,48 cm wurden mit 10 gewichtsprozentigen Lösungen
in Toluol von (a) einem Mischpolymerisat aus Tri-n-butylzinnmethacrylat und Methacrylsäureme-
r> thylester (1:1) und (b) einem Mischpolymerisat von Tri-n-butylzinnmethacrylat und Methacrylsäuremethylester
(3:1) bespritzt. Die zu prüfenden Bretter und eine unbehandelte Probe wurden in Seewasser
bei Florida versenkt. Dieses Gebiet enthält eine Viel-
iii zahl von Organismen, die Faulung hervorrufen. Es
wurde festgestellt, daß die unbehandelte Probe innerhalb eines Monats vollständig verfault war, während
sämtliche Bretter, die gemäß der Erfindung geschützt waren, selbst nach 6 Monaten noch frei von Fäulnis
r. waren. Nach einem Jahr zeigten sämtliche behandelten
Bretter immer noch ein gewisses Ausmaß der Verhinderung der Fäulnis.
Claims (1)
- Patentanspruch:Verwendung von Polymeren einer zinnorganischen Verbindung der allgemeinen FormelR3 Sn OOCR'worin R für einen niedrigmolekularen Alkylrest, wobei die Gesamtzahl der Kohlenstoffatome in den drei Resten R 6 bis 12, insbesondere 9 bis 12, ist und R' für eine poylmerisierbare Vinyl- oder α-Methyl viny !gruppe steht, als Wirkstoff in Antifouling-Anstrichmitteln.
