Additional patent to main patent no. 297020. Process for the production of an azo pigment. It has been found that a valuable azo pigment is obtained if a halide of the azo group-containing carboxylic acid of the formula is used in a molecular ratio of 2: 1
EMI0001.0006
condensed with 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl.
The new pigment forms a blue powder that is in conc. Sulfuric acid with a green, blue color dissolves and plastics, e.g. B. polyvinyl chloride, in pure, rust-tinged blue tones with very good migration security.
As acid halides of the above composition come z. B. the acid bromide. and especially the acid chloride in consideration. These halides can be conveniently prepared by treating the carboxylic acid of the formula given above with acid-halogenating agents, such as phosphorus halides or phosphorus oxyhalides. The acid chloride can e.g.
B. by means of phosphorus pentachloride or particularly advantageously by means of thionyl chloride. The treatment with the acid-halogenating agents is expediently carried out in an indifferent organic solvent such as mono or a dichlorobenzene, toluene, xylene, benzene or nitrobenzene.
The condensation of the acid halide with the diamine is also advantageously carried out in one of the organic solvents mentioned, and it is recommended that this conversion be carried out at elevated temperature in the presence of an acid-binding agent, such as. B. ammonia or pyridine to perform. The acid chlorides to be used as starting materials can be separated off from the reaction mixture in which they were prepared as indicated and, if necessary, recrystallized.
If necessary, especially if thionyl chloride was used to produce the acid halide, it is possible to dispense with a deposition and to carry out the condensation immediately after the production of the acid halide.
The relative amount of the reactants should be chosen so that two molecules of the carboxylic acid halide react with one molecule of the diamine. To carry out the reaction in practice, it is expedient to use a small excess of the first-mentioned component over the amount theoretically required. Example: 49.9 parts of the azo dye from diazotized 1-amino-2,5-diethoxy-4-benzoylaminobenzene and 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid are stirred in 300 parts of o-dichlorobenzene.
For this purpose, 15 parts of thionyl chloride are poured and it is heated to 120 to 130 for one hour while stirring. A warm solution of 9.2 parts of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl in 50 parts of o-dichlorobenzene and 5 parts of anhydrous pyridine is poured into the clear reddish blue solution and the temperature is maintained for 15% > Hours at 120 to 130. It is then allowed to cool to 100 and dry ammonia gas is introduced until a paste mixed with water reacts neutrally.
The precipitated pigment is filtered, washed well with 100% warm o-dichlorobenzene, mixed with hot water with the addition of a dispersing agent and the adhering dichlorobenzene is distilled off with steam. 1VTan then filters and dries in a vacuum at 80.
