B. Polyvinylchlorid, in oliven Tönen.
Additional patent to main patent no. 297020. Process for the production of an azo pigment. It has been found that a valuable azo pigment is obtained if a halide of the azo group-containing carboxylic acid of the formula is used in a molecular ratio of 2: 1
EMI0001.0007
condensed with 4,4'-diam.inodiphenyl.
The new pigment forms a brown powder that can be seen in conc. Dissolves sulfuric acid with boron deaux red color. It colors plastics, e.g. B. polyvinyl chloride, in olive tones.
As acid halides of the above composition come z. B. the acid bromide and especially the acid chloride into consideration. These halides can be conveniently prepared by treating the carboxylic acid of the formula given above with acid-halogenating agents such as phosphorus halides or phosphorus oxyhalides. The acid chloride can e.g. B. by means of phosphorus pentachloride or particularly advantageously by means of thionyl chloride.
The treatment with the acid halogenating agents is expediently carried out in an inert organic solvent such as mono- or dichlorobenzene, toluene, xylene, benzene or nitrobenzene.
The condensation of the acid halide with the diamine is also advantageously carried out in one of the organic solvents mentioned, and it is recommended that this reaction be carried out at elevated temperature in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as. B. ammonia or pyridine. The acid chlorides to be used as starting materials can be deposited and optionally recrystallized from the reaction mixture in which they were prepared as indicated.
If necessary, in particular if thionyl chloride was used to prepare the acid halide, deposition can be dispensed with and the condensation can be carried out immediately after the preparation of the acid halide.
The relative amount of the reactants should be chosen so that two molecules of the carboxylic acid halide react with one molecule of the diamine. To carry out the reaction in practice, it is advantageous to use a slight excess of the first-mentioned component over the theoretically required amount.
Example: 77.1 parts of the dry azo dye from diazotized 1-amino-2-methyl-4-chlorobenzene and 3-oxydiphenylene oxide-2-carboxylic acid are heated to 80 in 270 parts of anhydrous chlorobenzene with stirring mixed with 34 parts of thionyl chloride. The temperature is maintained at 125 for 1 hour. From the clear, deep brown solution, the acid chloride crystallizes out in brown crystals on cooling. They are filtered and washed with a little dry chlorobenzene and dried in vacuo at 70 to 80.
39.9 parts of the acid chloride are dissolved in 400 parts by volume of dry o-dichlorobenzene with stirring. To this end, the 100% warm solution of 9.2 parts of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl in 50 parts of anhydrous o-diehlobenzene and 5 parts of pyridine are poured and the mixture is stirred at 140 to 150 hours. It is filtered and washed with. 100 warm dichlorobenzene. After displacing the Diehlorbenzols with Al alcohol is dried in a vacuum.
