The present invention relates to a process for the preparation on the fiber of azo dyes insoluble in water, as well as the azo dyes obtained according to this process, and corresponding to the general / appended formula, in which R represents an aryl radical.
The Applicant has found that it is possible to produce on the fiber interesting azo dyes which are insoluble in

water, coupling 6- (21.3t-hydroxy-naphthoylamino) -3-chloro-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
indazol of formula 2 appended hereto with diazonium salts of primary aromatic domes.
According to the process of the present invention, there are obtained on the fibers of natural or regenerated cellulose, with the usual diazo components in the production of ice colors, dyes of orange, burgundy, red-brown, scarlet red, garnet, blue and black, frequently distinguished by good lightfastness and good to very good wet strengths.
In the present process, there can be used as disazo components, for example, chloro-anilines, nitro-anilines, chlorinated nitro-anilines, nitro-toluidines, nitro-anisidines, chloro-toluidines, chloro-anilines. -anisidines, amino-azo compounds, amino-diphenylamines, amino-diphenyl ethers, amino-benzene sulfonamides and diamines of the benzene or diphenyl series.
The 6- (2'.3'-hydroxy-naphthoylamino) -3-chloro-indazol used as coupling component can be produced according to known methods, for example by hot condensation of the acid.
EMI2.1
3e-hydroxY naphthoque with 3-chloro-6-aznino-indazol, in a suitable solvent such as toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene or dimethylaniline, in the presence of a condensing agent, for example phosphorus trichloride.
This compound melts at 304-306 and dissolves easily in dilute aqueous solutions of alkalis, even without solvents such as alcohol. In the form of its alkaline compounds, this new azo component is very substantive with regard to natural or regenerated cellulose fibers. Moreover, the impregnations obtained on these fibers using this azo component, even without formaldehyde, stand out. by a remarkable air stability The new compound therefore has very useful properties for the production on the fiber of azo dyes,
