OIL STOVE.
Fig, i.
Isn-xiii UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ll. CLAY BASCOM, OF TROY, AND TOBIAS S. HEISTER, OF LANSINGBURG, NEW YORK, ASSIGNORS TO THE FLORENCE MACHINE COMPANY,- OF
FLORENCE, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR AN OlL-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design N0. 13,071, dated July 25, 1882.
Application filed May 25, i882.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, H. CLAY BAsCoM, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, and ToBiAs S. HEIs'rER, of Lansingburg, in the county and State aforesaid, have jointly invented and produced a new and original Design for Oil-Stoves; and we do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the illustrations furnished and forming a part thereof,is a full, clear, and complete description of our said design, the separate features of which are specitied in the several clauses of claim hereunto annexed.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of a complete stove, embodying all of the features of our design. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view ofthe main portion of a stove, embodying features of our design peculiar thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the extension-top detached.
Separate features or elements of our design are applied respectively to the base A, drum B, extension-top C, and oven l).
The base A embodies several distinct features of our design. Said base is composed of the oil-reservoir a and sub-base I), preferably cast in one piece. The sub-base I) has four integral legs and an intervening web, c, which, with the ogee outline c at the corners of the subbase and the foliated ornaments c2 at the foot of each leg, in connection with the double ogee outlines cs at the lower edge of each web, constitutes one feature of our design.
The nearly horizontal top of the sub-base l is ornamented by a design consisting of a line of connected scrolls, b', which extends around three sides of the sub-base, leaving the front side to be used as a name-plate, as shown, if desired.
The oil-reservoir a is oruamented immediately above the sub-base by a design consisting of a line of triangular points, a, connected at their bases.
The drum B is four-sided, and it also embraces several distinct features of our design. The cap-plate d and foot-plate c have on each side thereof an ogee outline, and each edge is convex, and each convex edge is ornamented Term of patent i4 years.
by a continuous line of triangular points, d e', 5o
said points being connected at their bases, as before described in connection with the ornamental line a. This drum has four side plates, the front one having an opening provided with a door, and each of the other side plates is ornamented by a circular panel, f, containing a floral figure, j". Said panels are each surrounded with a floral scrolhfz. At each cor ner there is a column, g, nearly cylindrical and merging with said side plates. Each column has a foliated capital, g, and a foliated base, g2, and each of said columns is also spirally fluted, as shown.
In practice we prefer to heighten the ornamental effects by variably coloring portions of our design-as, for instance, by black-japanning` the side plates and gilding or bronzing the columns and the circular panels. Two or more parallel lines of triangular points, as shown, constitute one feature of our design.
The extensiontop C has an outline and a convex edge common to such tops; but it has novel ornamentations in the line of triangular points h, similar to those previously described at c', d', and c. The upper surface, between the pot openings, has an ornament, t', embodying a series of lines generally corresponding with the adjacent boundaries ofthe top and the pot-openings, said ornament having the general form of a fanciful letter, I, having a convex outline at cach side and at its top and bottom. The outline of the openings r in the covers are heart-shaped, as shown.
The oven D has a door ornainented by a main rectangular panel, at the corners of which there are mitered elevations l. A minor double panel, m, has concave corners m', and within this double panel is a monogram, E M. Co.
lVe prefer, for the best and most complete effects, that the complete design be employed as shown and described; but one or more of the special features hereinafter designated in the several clauses ot claim may be employed with other designs, and result in similar general ornamental effects.
We claim as new- 1. The design for an oil-stove base, herein shown and described, consisting of the ogee outline extending from the foliated foot of each leg to the base-line of the reservoir, combined with the double ogee outline between the legs.
2. The design for an oil-stove drum, consisting of ogee outlines of the cap and foot plates, their convex edges, and the line of triangular points on each of said edges, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for the side plates of an oilstove drum, consisting of the circular panel inclosing a floral decoration, substantiall.)v as shown and described. Y
4. The design for the side plates of an oilstove drum, consisting of the central panel and the oral scrolls on each side thereof, substantially as shown and described.
5. The design for the corners of an oil-stove drum, consisting of the corner-columns having foliated capitals and bases, substantially as shown and described.
6. The design for the corners of an oilstove drum, consisting of the spirally-fluted columns merging with the side plates, and having foliated capitals and bases, substantially as shown and described.
7. The design for the extension-top of an oilstove, consisting of the ornament resembling a fancy letter I, located between the pot-openings, substantially as shown and described.
S. The design for the oven of an oil-stove, 3o consisting of the main panel with initer elevations anda central or minor panel, substantially as shown and described.
