- 하기 일반식(I)의 플루오로벤젠 유도체[상기 식에서,R은 H, C1내지 C15의 알킬 또은 알케닐 라디칼 (이 라디칼들은 치환되지 않거나, 또는 CN 또는 CF3에 의해 일치환되거나 할로겐에 의해 적어도 일치환되며; 이 라디칼들중의 하나 이상의 CH2그룹들은 또한, 각각의 경우에 서로 독립적으로, O원자가 서로 직접 결합되지 않도록 하는 방법으로 -O-, -S-,1,4-사이클로헥실렌 라디칼(여기서, 하나 이상의 인접하지 않은 CH2그룹들은 또한 -O- 및/또는 -S-에 의해 치환될 수 있다),(b) 1,4-페닐렌 라디칼(여기서, 1 또는 2개의 CH 그룹들은 또한 N에 의해 치환될 수 있다),(c) 1,4-사이클로헥세닐렌, 1,4-비사이클로(2.2.2)옥틸렌, 피페리딘-1,4-디일, 나프탈렌-2,6-디일, 데카하이드로나프탈렌-2,6-디일 및 1,2,3,4-테트라하이드로나프탈렌-2,6-디일로 이루어진 그룹중에서 선택된 라디칼(여기서, 라디칼(a) 및 (b)는 CN 또는 불소에 의해 치환될 수 있다)이며, Z1및 Z2는 각각의 경우에 서로 독립적으로, -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH2O-, -OCH2-, -CH2CH2-, -CH=CH-, -C=O- 또는 단일결합하고, 라디칼 Z1과 Z2중 어느 하나는 또한 -(CH2)4- 또는 -CH=CH-CH2CH2-이며, L은 H 또는 F이고, m은 0, 1 또는 2이고, Y는 F 또는 C1이고, Q는 단일결합, -CF2-, -OCF2- 또는 -OCHF-이지만, 단, Q가 단일결합인 경우 L은 F이고, Q가 -OCF2이고, Y가 F인 경우 L은 F이어야 한다.

- 하나 이상의 일반식(I)화합물을 함유함을 특징으로 하는, 2개이상의 액정 성분을 함유하는 액정매질.
- 트위스트된 쎌, 게스트-호스트 효과, 정렬된 상의 변형효과 또는 동적 산란 효과의 원리를 기본으로 하는 디스플레이에 사용하기 위한, 제1항에 따른 일반식(I)의 화합물을 함유하는 액정매질.
