【従来の技術】フロート法等によって製造する建築用板
ガラスについて、板ガラス上に太陽光線をコントロール
する被膜を設けるための優れた技術があり、そのうちの
2つの方法は熱分解法とマグネトロン・スパッタ被膜形
成方法である。スパッタ被膜形成方法においてこれまで
経験した欠点は、被膜が容易に擦り落ちてしまうこと
(すなわち、耐久性の欠如)や、格子などで仕切られた
多面ガラスの窓を作る際に使用する高分子シール剤が被
膜を侵すことなどである。また、このことはシールその
ものも破損することになり、多面ガラス間に有害な物質
が蓄まることになる。一方、スパッタ被膜は、ほとんど
の熱分解被膜に比べて低放射率や可視光線の高透過率特
性を得ることができるという利点を持っている。これら

【課題を解決するための手段】上記目的を達成するため
に、本発明のスパッタ被膜形成ガラス製品は以下の構成
を有する。すなわち、ガラス基板はその上に内側より外
方へ向けて、Si3N4の下層、ニッケルまたはニッケル
合金の第1層、銀の層、ニッケルまたはニッケル合金の
第2層、Si3N4の上層から成る層構成を有する。ガラ
ス基板が約2mm〜6mmの厚さを有する時、望ましく
は、この被膜形成ガラスは可視光透過率約78%以上
(Ill.C),通常放射率(En)は約0.12未
満、半球放射率(Eh)は約0.16未満を有する。

2〜0.13、Enに対しては約0.09〜0.10で
ある。これら実施例では、シート抵抗の望ましい範囲は
10.5オーム/平方メートル以下、最も望ましくは約
9〜10オーム/平方メートルである。

【0019】本発明の望ましい実施例では、層構造は上
記5層より成り、他はない。本発明の他の望ましい実施
例では、本発明の被膜の基本的な品質を侵害しない他の
従来被膜を設けることによって本発明の層構造を増加す
ることが可能である。ある例では、この追加層はこの被
膜の基本的品質を実際に増大させることになった。例え
ば、本発明によって企図されたこの他の層構造は、ニッ
ケルベース(例えばニッケル・クロム)層を間に入れ銀
層を2層に分離させることによって7層構造とする。す
なわち、この層構造はガラス基板から外方へ向かって以
下のようになる。 Si3N4/Ni:Cr/Ag/Ni:Cr/Ag/N
i:Cr/Si3N4 この7層構造は、一般的に前記の5層構造のものと比較
して、同等の高い赤外線反射率を有し、かつ多少高い耐
久性とひっかき抵抗特性を示す。さらに、必要に応じて
ひっかき抵抗を向上させるための上層を設けたり、接着
性の向上のために下層を追加して設けることが可能であ
る。しかし、上記したように本発明の最も望ましい実施
例は5層構造と7層構造である。
記5層より成り、他はない。本発明の他の望ましい実施
例では、本発明の被膜の基本的な品質を侵害しない他の
従来被膜を設けることによって本発明の層構造を増加す
ることが可能である。ある例では、この追加層はこの被
膜の基本的品質を実際に増大させることになった。例え
ば、本発明によって企図されたこの他の層構造は、ニッ
ケルベース(例えばニッケル・クロム)層を間に入れ銀
層を2層に分離させることによって7層構造とする。す
なわち、この層構造はガラス基板から外方へ向かって以
下のようになる。 Si3N4/Ni:Cr/Ag/Ni:Cr/Ag/N
i:Cr/Si3N4 この7層構造は、一般的に前記の5層構造のものと比較
して、同等の高い赤外線反射率を有し、かつ多少高い耐
久性とひっかき抵抗特性を示す。さらに、必要に応じて
ひっかき抵抗を向上させるための上層を設けたり、接着
性の向上のために下層を追加して設けることが可能であ
る。しかし、上記したように本発明の最も望ましい実施
例は5層構造と7層構造である。
【0020】本発明の望ましい実施例では、最適な放射
率と透過率特性を得るために、各層の厚さが重要な要素
となる。上記した従来のエアコ社製の5層構造の銀層厚
70オングストロームより厚い層、すなわち、銀の層が
1層である時には銀層の連続性を確保し、適切な赤外線
反射率特性を確保するために20%乃至30%増しの厚
さを用いる。したがって、本発明ではエアコ社製の5層
構造の銀層厚70オングストロームより厚い、銀層の総
厚さが約90〜105オングストローム、望ましくは約
95〜105オングストロームを用いる。
率と透過率特性を得るために、各層の厚さが重要な要素
となる。上記した従来のエアコ社製の5層構造の銀層厚
70オングストロームより厚い層、すなわち、銀の層が
1層である時には銀層の連続性を確保し、適切な赤外線
反射率特性を確保するために20%乃至30%増しの厚
さを用いる。したがって、本発明ではエアコ社製の5層
構造の銀層厚70オングストロームより厚い、銀層の総
厚さが約90〜105オングストローム、望ましくは約
95〜105オングストロームを用いる。
【0021】本発明の5層構造、例えばAg層が1層の
時には、約95オングストロームの厚さが望ましい。銀
層がニッケルベースの層で2層に分けられた実施例で
は、その2層の総厚は90〜105オングストローム、
望ましくは各層が約50オングストロームである。この
場合、50オングストロームの銀層はいくぶん不連続と
なる。この不連続はエアコ社製のものでは問題となった
が、本発明の実施からは有害な影響は生じない。
時には、約95オングストロームの厚さが望ましい。銀
層がニッケルベースの層で2層に分けられた実施例で
は、その2層の総厚は90〜105オングストローム、
望ましくは各層が約50オングストロームである。この
場合、50オングストロームの銀層はいくぶん不連続と
なる。この不連続はエアコ社製のものでは問題となった
が、本発明の実施からは有害な影響は生じない。
【0022】本発明で用いられるニッケルベースの層は
エアコ社製のもので使用したのと同じNi:Cr(80
/20)ニクロムが望ましい。しかし、エアコ社製のも
のが10オングストローム(あるいはそれ以上)の厚さ
を使用していたが、本発明では通常約7オングストロー
ム未満(たとえば、6オングストローム以下、あるいは
約15〜20%ほど少ない)の厚さにする。
エアコ社製のもので使用したのと同じNi:Cr(80
/20)ニクロムが望ましい。しかし、エアコ社製のも
のが10オングストローム(あるいはそれ以上)の厚さ
を使用していたが、本発明では通常約7オングストロー
ム未満(たとえば、6オングストローム以下、あるいは
約15〜20%ほど少ない)の厚さにする。

はエアコ社製のものより増加させる。望ましい実施例で

ムである。このSi3N4層の目的は主として対反射、色
の制御、化学抵抗、ひっかき抵抗、磨耗抵抗である。

【0025】本発明の発想は当業界の今までの常識に対
立するものである。すなわち、ここで企図する望ましい
層構造について、スパッタ被膜形成の際に銀を窒素から
隔離する必要がないばかりか、その窒素雰囲気中で銀と
ニッケルベースの両者を共にスパッタ被膜形成がおこな
えるという利点もある。銀の能力はほとんど損失するこ
とはなく、また、ニッケルベースの層がクロムを含み、
そのクロムがスパッタリングの際に窒化物に変化すると
驚異的に透過率が増大するという予期せぬ効果を導く。
したがって、本発明の望ましい実施例では、ニッケルベ
ースのターゲットはNi:Cr合金で、スパッタリング
の際に銀と同じスパッタゾーンでそのCrは少なくとも
部分的にCrの窒化物に変化する。これは、前述のよう
に最終製品の可視光透過率がかなり増大することが分か
った。さらに、銀のスパッタを行うのと同じゾーンでこ
の窒化物を作ることにより、コストを下げしかも生産性
を増大させることになる。

あるが、これは使用可能なSiターゲットの数が減少す
ることにより生産性が低下する。一方、本発明の方法に
よればクロムの窒化物を作るという利点と、窒素ガスが
スパッタを行う際に銀に悪影響を与えないという利点の
両方を有し、2個のNi:Crターゲットを銀のターゲ
ットと同じゾーンにいれ、従来必要と考えられていた純
粋なアルゴン雰囲気とは反対にアルゴン/窒素雰囲気内
でスパッタを行えるので、従来プロセスの高価で生産性
の悪い方法が不要になる。したがって、望ましい実施例
では雰囲気はアルゴン/窒素が体積比で50%/50%
を使用するが、その使用可能範囲はアルゴン0〜75
%、窒素100%〜25%である。

明の新規な方法はクロムの窒化物を作るに充分な窒素ガ
スを含んだ雰囲気を有する同じゾーン内でNi:Cr/
Ag/Ni:Crターゲットのスパッタ被膜形成を行う
ことである。望ましくは、この雰囲気はアルゴンを0〜
75体積%、窒素を100〜25体積%含む。最も望ま
しくは、アルゴン50体積%、窒素50体積%である。
一実施例では、下層および上層スパッタ被膜形成は窒素
100%雰囲気内でおこなわれ、一方、他の実施例では
生産性を向上させるために、3〜50体積%のアルゴン
ガスを窒素と共に使用する。
明の新規な方法はクロムの窒化物を作るに充分な窒素ガ
スを含んだ雰囲気を有する同じゾーン内でNi:Cr/
Ag/Ni:Crターゲットのスパッタ被膜形成を行う
ことである。望ましくは、この雰囲気はアルゴンを0〜
75体積%、窒素を100〜25体積%含む。最も望ま
しくは、アルゴン50体積%、窒素50体積%である。
一実施例では、下層および上層スパッタ被膜形成は窒素
100%雰囲気内でおこなわれ、一方、他の実施例では
生産性を向上させるために、3〜50体積%のアルゴン
ガスを窒素と共に使用する。

【実施例】添付図面を参照にして本発明の望ましい実施
例を詳細に説明する。図1は、エアコ社製の装置のよう
な従来のマグネトロン・スパッタ被膜形成装置の説明図
である。本発明では、第1ゾーン〜第5ゾーンから成る
5ゾーン構成を使用する。(矢印A方向へガラス基板が
進み、層が連続的に形成される。)第1ゾーンは珪素
(Si)の筒状ターゲット(たとえば導電性を得るため
にアルミニュウムを3〜5重量%添加したSi)を6本
(t1〜t6)有する。第2ゾーンも同じターゲットt7
〜t12を有する。同じように、第4ゾーン、第5ゾーン
もそれぞれ同 じターゲットt19〜t24、t25〜t30を
有する。
例を詳細に説明する。図1は、エアコ社製の装置のよう
な従来のマグネトロン・スパッタ被膜形成装置の説明図
である。本発明では、第1ゾーン〜第5ゾーンから成る
5ゾーン構成を使用する。(矢印A方向へガラス基板が
進み、層が連続的に形成される。)第1ゾーンは珪素
(Si)の筒状ターゲット(たとえば導電性を得るため
にアルミニュウムを3〜5重量%添加したSi)を6本
(t1〜t6)有する。第2ゾーンも同じターゲットt7
〜t12を有する。同じように、第4ゾーン、第5ゾーン
もそれぞれ同 じターゲットt19〜t24、t25〜t30を
有する。

5層構造を形成するために3個の平板ターゲットP1〜

第1〜第2ゾーンおよび第4〜第5ゾーンの6本のター
ゲット位置の効用はこの装置の代表とするなら、比較的
薄い3枚のニッケルベース(たとえばニクロム)層を形
成するに必要とされ、用いられる一技術はニッケルベー
ス・ターゲットとしてターゲット31、33(つまり、
P1とP3)を使用し、ターゲット16(P2)の代わり
にP1とP3間にt13が銀、t14がニッケルベース、t15
かt1 6の一方が銀という一続きのターゲットを使用す
る。
5層構造を形成するために3個の平板ターゲットP1〜
P3(それぞれ図1の31、16、33で示す)を有す
るか、図4に示すように7層構造を形成するために5〜
6個のターゲット(筒状あるいは平板状)を有する。図
示した3個の平板ターゲットシステムは、もちろん図2
に示した従来例のエアコ社製の層構造を作るためにも使
用できる。図4の7層構造用の第3ゾーンのターゲット
配置は当業者が適宜選択できるものであり、省略した。
第1〜第2ゾーンおよび第4〜第5ゾーンの6本のター
ゲット位置の効用はこの装置の代表とするなら、比較的
薄い3枚のニッケルベース(たとえばニクロム)層を形
成するに必要とされ、用いられる一技術はニッケルベー
ス・ターゲットとしてターゲット31、33(つまり、

気を使用していた。また、Siのスパッタリングは窒素
ガス100%の中で行わなくてはならないと信じられて
いた。

た。図2ではガラス基板はGで表わされる。このガラス
基板は2〜6mm厚の板ガラスが望ましく、通常、従来
のフロートプロセスによって製造されたソーダ−石灰−
シリカ組成を有した。第1、第2ゾーンでは、Si3N4
から成る第1下層111が形成された。その名目上の厚
さは約325オングストロームであった。第1、第2ゾ
ーンはほぼ100%の窒素ガス内で行った。次に、第3
ゾーンでは、実質的に100%のアルゴンガスを用いて
80/20ニクロムの薄い層112(例えば、7オング
ストローム以上)を初めに設け、続いて銀の比較的厚め
の層115(例えば、約70オングストローム)を設け
た。銀層115は不連続であり、その不連続部は図2で
空白部117で示した。この同じ第3ゾーンで、この銀
層に別の比較的薄い(例えば、7オングストローム以
上)の80/20ニクロム層119を設けた。第4、第
5ゾーンで、Si3N4から成る最上層121を下層11
1の厚さよりいくぶん厚め(例えば、約450オングス
トローム)に設けた。このガラスは望ましい太陽光制御
特性より劣っており、この例は以下「標準エアコ」とし
て記載する。

から成る第1下層111が形成された。その名目上の厚
さは約325オングストロームであった。第1、第2ゾ
ーンはほぼ100%の窒素ガス内で行った。次に、第3
ゾーンでは、実質的に100%のアルゴンガスを用いて
80/20ニクロムの薄い層112(例えば、7オング
ストローム以上)を初めに設け、続いて銀の比較的厚め
の層115(例えば、約70オングストローム)を設け
た。銀層115は不連続であり、その不連続部は図2で
空白部117で示した。この同じ第3ゾーンで、この銀
層に別の比較的薄い(例えば、7オングストローム以
上)の80/20ニクロム層119を設けた。第4、第
5ゾーンで、Si3N4から成る最上層121を下層11
1の厚さよりいくぶん厚め(例えば、約450オングス
トローム)に設けた。このガラスは望ましい太陽光制御
特性より劣っており、この例は以下「標準エアコ」とし
て記載する。

て形成した2種の実施例を示している。これはフロート
ガラス基板G(厚さ2〜6mm)上に形成した5層構造
である。第1層はSi3N4から成り、ほぼ100%の窒
素ガス雰囲気の第1、第2ゾーン内で形成する。オプシ
ョンとして、特定の条件(例えば、サイズが小さい)で
は、多少のアルゴンガスを導入して(例えば、第2ゾー
ンへ)Siのスパッタリングを増加させる。次に、第3
ゾーンで層213(213’)、215、219(21
9’)を形成する。

【0034】本発明の一実施例では、第3ゾーンで使用
する雰囲気は実質的にアルゴンガス100%である。タ
ーゲットP1(31)は望ましくは80/20のニクロ
ムであるが、ニッケルまたはニッケルベース合金も必要
により使用可能である。太陽光制御特性の向上および図
2の製品の問題を克服するために、実質的に純粋な金属
層である層213は約7オングストローム未満の厚さを
維持する。これは図2の製品を作る時のターゲットP1
(31)への消費電力を約20%以上減少させる。さら
に、図 2の製品と比較して、ターゲットP2(16)か
ら作られる銀層215は層11 5の厚さより厚く(例
えば、約90〜105オングストローム)され、層21

率、透過率、シート抵抗特性を有する。つまり、透過率
は80%のレベルに近付き、放射率とシート抵抗(R
s)値はかなり低い。

ース)純金属層219を形成する。これに、次の第4、
第5ゾーンでSi3N4の最上層221を下層211形成
時と同じように形成する。最上層221は通常、下層2

例では、図1の装置を使用し、より良好な太陽光制御特
性を得る個性的な方法を用いる。この方法では、従来の
常識に反して第3ゾーンでアルゴンガスと共に窒素ガス
を用い、またニッケル・クロム合金をターゲットP
1(31)とP3(33)のどちらか、望ましくは両者に
使用して、クロム金属をその窒化物としてNi:Cr層
に形成(つまり、層213’、層219’のどちらか、
あるいは両方)するということを除けば、前記の第1実
施例と同じ工程を有する。アルゴンと窒素の比率は必要
に応じて変えることができ、一般的にはアルゴン0〜7
5体積%対窒素100〜25体積%の範囲で、望ましく
は50%対50%であり、この比率では第1実施例の製
品より特性が向上する(たとえば、透過率とシート抵抗
Rs)。この実施例の望ましい形態では、厚さは第1実
施例の製品と同じにする。代表的な電力レベルは後述す
る。

示せず)を使用して、第1、第2ゾーンでSi3N4の下
層311を形成し、第4、第5ゾーンでSi3N4の上層
321を形成することによって製造する。層311、3
21の層厚は層211、221と同じが望ましい。

耐久性があり、それより透過率は低いが(つまり、最小
76%レベルをほんの少し上回る)、その放射率とシー
ト抵抗(Rs)値は図3のものより良好である。この正
確な理由は不明であるが、銀層を2層に分離し、Niベ
ース(Ni:Cr)層を中間層として結合させたことが
原因と考えられる。したがって、Niベース中間層は大

ト抵抗(Rs)値は図3のものより良好である。この正
確な理由は不明であるが、銀層を2層に分離し、Niベ
ース(Ni:Cr)層を中間層として結合させたことが

と、図3に示した本発明の2種の実施例による層構造物
を図1に示した装置で製造した。本発明の第1実施例を
Aタイプ、第2実施例(窒化物が213’と219’の
両層に形成される)をBタイプとする。使用したターゲ
ットはエアコの筒状アルミニュウム添加Siターゲット
t1-12およびt19-30であった。ターゲットP1(31)
とP3(33)はNi80重量%とCr20重量%であ
った。ターゲットP2(16)は銀(Ag)であった。
使用したガラスはガーディアン工業会社(Guardi
anIndustries Corp.)製の、厚さ3
mm(0.123インチ)の従来のソーダ石灰シリカ・
フロートガラスであった。ライン速度は345インチ/
分で、第1、第2、第4、第5ゾーンの圧力は2.5x
10-3Torrであった。そのゾーンでは窒素100%
雰囲気を使用した。標準エアコおよび本発明のAタイプ
用にアルゴン100%雰囲気を使用した。Bタイプ用に
はアルゴン/窒素50%/50%雰囲気を使用した。各
ターゲット用の供給エネルギーは別紙の表1、表2、表
3、表4に示すとおりであった。

0%雰囲気内でSi3N4の下層と上層が形成される条件
を用いて作られた。第1、第2ゾーンおよび第4、第5
ゾーンのターゲットはアルミニュウム添加Siターゲッ
トであり、P1(31)とP3(33)は80/20ニク
ロムでP2(16)は銀(Ag)であった。唯一異なる

減少し、赤外線反射率と透過率値は減少した。しかし、
この両ガラスは実際の建築物の多面窓用に使用可能であ
る。さらに、以下の表に示したように種々のゾーンで異
なった電力レベルを用いてAタイプガラスのサンプルを
作った。ガラス厚は3mmで表7で使用したものと同じ
ソーダ石灰シリカ・フロートガラスを用いた。

減少し、赤外線反射率と透過率値は減少した。しかし、
この両ガラスは実際の建築物の多面窓用に使用可能であ

【効果】本発明によるスパッタ被膜形成ガラスはスパッ
タ被膜形成の際に銀を窒素から隔離する必要がないばか
りか、その窒素雰囲気中で銀とニッケルベースの両者を
共にスパッタ被膜形成がおこなえるという利点もある。
銀の能力はほとんど損失することはなく、また、ニッケ
ルベースの層がクロムを含み、そのクロムがスパッタリ
ングの際に窒化物に変化すると驚異的に透過率が増大す
るという期待以上の効果がある。また、最終製品の可視
光透過率がかなり増大する。さらに、銀のスパッタを行
うのと同じゾーンでこの窒化物を作ることにより、コス
トを下げ、しかも生産性を増大させることになる。
タ被膜形成の際に銀を窒素から隔離する必要がないばか
りか、その窒素雰囲気中で銀とニッケルベースの両者を
共にスパッタ被膜形成がおこなえるという利点もある。
