【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明はエアバッグに係り、特に
乗員の保護性能に優れ、しかもコンパクト化が可能で低
コストで提供されるエアバッグに関する。

【従来の技術】各種交通機関、特に自動車の衝突時の安
全保護装置として、エアバッグシステムが提案され、既
に実用化されている。現在、一般的に使用されているエ
アバッグの構成材料としては、高強力ナイロン繊維(8
40デニール)の織物に、クロロプレン等のゴムをコー
ティングした、いわゆるゴム引布が用いられている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】上記ゴム引布でエアバ
ッグを製造する場合、円形に裁断した上布と下布を縫製
し、更にエアバッグを最適形状に展開させるためのスト
ラップ等を縫製取り付けし、かつエアバッグ展開時に発
生したガスが縫合部からもれるのを防ぐために縫合部を
ゴムコートしなければならず、工程が複雑になるという
欠点があった。また、モジュール内に収納するために折
り畳む必要があり、そのためエアバッグ収納部に大きな
スペース或いは面積を要し、メーターの視認性が悪くな
るという欠点があった。
【0004】本発明は上記従来の問題点を解決し、乗員
の保護性能に優れ、しかもコンパクト化が可能で、また
、エアバッグ製造工程の簡素化により、低コストで製造
することができるエアバッグを提供することを目的とす
る。

【課題を解決するための手段】本発明のエアバッグは、
上布及び下布の同縁部同志を接合した袋状のエアバッグ
において、少なくとも上布は、線状の芯材と、該芯材に
付着した、該芯材よりも低融点の熱可塑性ポリマーとか
らなる複合繊維を織製して織布となし、且つ前記熱可塑
性ポリマー同志を熱融着してなるシート材で構成されて
いることを特徴とする。
【0006】以下に本発明を図面を参照して詳細に説明
する。第1図は本発明の一実施例に係るエアバッグの展
開状態を示す断面図、第2図は複合繊維の実施例を示す
断面図、第3図はシート材の実施例を示す断面図、第4
図及び第5図は各々織布及びシート材の実施例を示す断
面図である。第1図に示す如く、本実施例のエアバッグ
1は、略円形状のシート材よりなる上布2と、中央にイ
ンフレーター挿入口3aを有する略円形状のシート材よ
りなる下布とを、各々の周縁部同志を接合して袋状とし
たものであって、上布2の略中央の裏側面には、補強布
4が接合されている。
【0007】本実施例において、上布2、下布3、補強
布4は、線状の芯材と、該芯材に付着した、該芯材より
も低融点の熱可塑性ポリマー(以下「低融点ポリマー」
と称す。)とからなる複合繊維を織製して織布となし、
且つ前記低融点ポリマー同志を熱融着してなるシート材

【0008】本発明において、上記複合繊維としては、
例えば、第2図に示す如く、線状の芯材5を低融点ポリ
マーの鞘材料6で被覆してなるシース・アンド・コア型
複合繊維7を用いることができる。その他、線状の芯材
に低融点ポリマーをバイメタル状に貼り合わせたサイド
・バイ・サイド型複合繊維、或いは芯材が偏芯した構造
の複合繊維等を用いることもできる。
【0009】このような複合繊維を構成する芯材材料と
しては、例えば、ポリアミド繊維、ポリエステル繊維、
高弾性繊維、具体的には、アラミド繊維、芳香族ポリエ
ステル繊維、超高分子量ポリエチレン繊維等が挙げられ
る。
【0010】一方、低融点ポリマーとしては、ポリエチ
レン、変性(低融点)ポリエステル、ポリウレタン、エ
チレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体等が挙げられる。このよう
な低融点ポリマーは、その融点が高いと、後述の織布の
熱融着に際し、芯材の収縮が発生するおそれがあるため
、芯材材料との融点の差が大きいこと、好ましくは芯材
材料の融点よりも100℃以上、とりわけ150℃以上
低い融点を有することが望まれる。
【0011】本発明においては、一例として、ポリエス
テル芯材(融点200〜250℃)と変性ポリエステル
鞘材(融点90〜130℃)とからなる複合繊維を用い
ることができる。
【0012】このような複合繊維を織製して得られた織
布を加熱及び必要に応じて圧着して、織布を構成する複
合繊維の低融点ポリマー同志を熱融着させることにより
、溶融した低融点ポリマーが芯材間を流動してその間隙
を埋め、第3図に示す如く、あたかも芯材5の織布の表
裏及び間隔が、溶融、固化した低融点ポリマー8で充填
された通気性のないシート材9が得られる。このような
シート材9を得るための加熱ないし圧着処理は、打ち抜
き加工と同時に行なうことができる。即ち、本発明にお
いては、前記複合繊維を織製してなる織布を加圧ないし
必要に応じて圧着すると共に打抜き加工して、容易かつ
効率的に所望形状の、即ち、上布用、下布用又は補強布
用シート材とすることができる。
【0013】得られた上布2、下布3及び補強布4は、
まず、補強布4を上布2の所定箇所に熱融着した後、上
布2と下布3とを重ね合せ、周縁部同志を熱融着するこ
とにより、第1図に示すエアバッグ1とする。なお、図
中、1Aは融着部を示す。
【0014】なお、第1図に示すエアバッグ1は本発明
の一実施例であって、本発明は何ら図示のものに限定さ
れるものではない。例えば、補強布は必ずしも必要では
なく、なくても良い。また、シート材としては、第4図
に示す如く、通常の繊維よりなる横糸7aと、複合繊維
よりなる上層の縦糸7bと、通常の繊維よりなる下層の
縦糸7cとで構成される2層構造の織布7Aを、加熱圧
着処理して、第5図に示す如く、熱融着層9aと、通常
の繊維層9bとが積層一体化した構造のシート材9Aと
したものを用いても良い。
【0015】特に、積層構造のシート材(補強布を有す
る場合を含む)において、低融点ポリマーとして柔軟性
のあるポリエチレン、エチレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体、
ポリウレタン等を用いた複合繊維から構成された織布で
得られるシート材が乗員側となるように配置された上布
を用いたエアバッグであれば、エアバッグ展開時にエア
バッグが乗員の顔や頭等に当った場合でも、乗員を傷付
けることが殆どない。
【0016】また、下布に、通常の繊維よりなる織布、
又は、複合繊維よりなる織布であって熱融着処理がなさ
れていないものを用いた場合には、インフレーターから
噴出する充填ガス(矢印A)を、下布の織布の織目間か
ら適宜漏出させることができるようになるため、ベント
ホールを必要としない下布通気性を有するエアバッグを
得ることが可能とされる。下布に通常の繊維よりなる織
布を用いる場合、融着を確実なものとするため、上布、
下布間に周縁部に沿って熱融着フィルムを挟むことが好
ましい。
【0017】
【作用】本発明のエアバッグに係るシート材によれば、
ゴムコーティング処理が不要であり、また、上布と下布
とは縫合することなく、熱融着により容易に接合するこ
とができるため、製造工程の簡易化、製造コストの低廉
化が図れる。しかも、モジュール内への収納性が良好で
、省スペース化が可能である。
【0018】また、上布を柔軟性のあるものとすること
ができるため、エアバッグ展開時の安全性も高い。

【実施例】以下に実施例を挙げて本発明をより具体的に
説明する。
【0020】実施例1 芯材がポリエステル(融点230℃)、鞘材が変性ポリ
エステル(融点110℃)の複合繊維を用いて織布を得
、この織布を150℃に加熱融着すると共に打抜き加工
して、直径75cm、厚さ0.4mmの略円形の非通気
性シート材よりなる上布を製造した。同様にして直径1
6cm、厚さ0.4mmの非通気性のシート材よりなる
補強布を製造し、この補強布を上布のほぼ中央部分に熱
融着により接合した。
【0021】別に、上記と同様にして得られた織布を打
抜き加工して、インフレーター挿入口を有する直径75
cm、厚さ0.4mmの通気性の下布を製造した。
【0022】この下布と、前記上布とを重ね合せて、周
縁部同志を140℃で加熱圧着することにより熱融着し
て、第1図に示すエアバッグを得た。
【0023】実施例2 実施例1で製造した直径75cm、厚さ0.4mmの上
布と、複合繊維ではない単一成分型の直径75cm、厚
さ0.4mmのポリエステル織布よりなる下布の間に、
外径75cm、内径72cm、厚さ0.4mmの変性ポ
リエステル熱融着フィルム(融点110℃)を挟み、周
縁部を140℃で加熱圧着することにより熱融着して、
第1図に示すエアバッグを得た。
【0024】実施例1及び実施例2で製造されたエアバ
ッグは、いずれも展開性、収納性に富み、その製造は極
めて容易であった。
【0025】
【発明の効果】以上詳述した通り、本発明のエアバッグ
によれば、展開性、収納性、安全性(乗員の保護性能)
に富むエアバッグが安価に提供される。

Claims (1)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】  上布及び下布の同縁部同志を接合した
    袋状のエアバッグにおいて、少なくとも上布は、線状の
    芯材と、該芯材に付着した、該芯材よりも低融点の熱可
    塑性ポリマーと、からなる複合繊維を織製して織布とな
    し、且つ前記熱可塑性ポリマー同志を熱融着してなるシ
    ート材で構成されていることを特徴とするエアバッグ。
