Description
オリゴアニリン化合物への不純物の混入は、有機EL素子の寿命を縮めたり、有機EL素子特性の再現性を低下させたりする等の問題を引き起こす原因となる。
混入する不純物としては、微量の金属分が考えられる。例えば、製造時に、人為的に、もしくは装置的に混入するCa、Fe、Naや、オリゴアニリン化合物の製造に使用される金属試薬に由来する残存金属が挙げられる。
また、優れた特性を有する有機EL素子を、一定の品質で、かつ、再現性よく製造することは、工業的製造法という観点から特に重要な課題である。工業的スケールで再現性を保持するためには、一般的に、煩雑な操作を必要としない手法が望まれる。
本出願人は、この酸化体を除去するためにヒドラジン等の還元剤でオリゴアニリン化合物を処理する方法(特許文献2:国際公開第03/071559号パンフレット参照)や、高い均一性を有する薄膜を作成するためにワニス調製溶剤として高粘度溶剤を用いる方法(特許文献3:国際公開第04/043117号パンフレット参照)等を見出し、薄膜の均一性に関する改良を既に行ってきた。
このように、原料となるオリゴアニリン化合物の純度は、安定したEL素子特性を再現するために重要な要素であることから、その優れた精製方法の開発が望まれる。
1. 製造後の未精製の式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を、溶媒に溶かしてオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を調製し、このオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を、前記オリゴアニリン化合物に対して4〜20質量%の活性炭で処理した後、さらに再結晶処理し、560nmにおける吸光係数εが30以下である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を得ることを特徴とするオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法、
2. 酸化体を含み、560nmにおける吸光係数εが80〜1000である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を、溶媒に溶かしてオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を調製し、このオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を、前記オリゴアニリン化合物に対して4〜20質量%の活性炭で処理した後、さらに再結晶処理し、560nmにおける吸光係数εが30以下である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を得ることを特徴とするオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法、
3. Li、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの各金属成分の含有量が1ppm以下である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を得る1または2のオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法、
4. 前記オリゴアニリン化合物が、式(4)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物である1〜3のいずれかのオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法、
5. Li、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの各金属成分の含有量が1ppm以下であり、560nmにおける吸光係数εが、400以下であることを特徴とする式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物、
6. 式(4)で表される5のオリゴアニリン化合物、
7. 5または6のオリゴアニリン化合物を含むことを特徴とする電荷輸送性ワニス、
8. 7の電荷輸送性ワニスから作製され、表面平均粗さRaが1nm以下であることを特徴とする電荷輸送性薄膜、
9. 7の電荷輸送性ワニスを用いることを特徴とする電荷輸送性薄膜の製造方法、
10. 8の電荷輸送性薄膜、または9の製造方法で得られた電荷輸送性薄膜を備えることを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子、
11. 8の電荷輸送性薄膜、または9の製造方法で得られた電荷輸送性薄膜を用いることを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子の製造方法
を提供する。
本発明に係る第1のオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法は、製造後の未精製の上記式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を、溶媒に溶かしてオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を調製し、このオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を、オリゴアニリン化合物に対して4〜20質量%の活性炭で処理した後、さらに再結晶処理し、560nmにおける吸光係数εが30以下である上記式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物とするものである。すなわち、活性炭処理と再結晶処理とを組み合わせることで、再結晶処理のみ、活性炭処理のみ、セライト処理のみなどでは、達成し得ない精製度のオリゴアニリン化合物を得るものである。
この酸化体は、560nmに吸収極大波長を有する、下記式で示されるキノンジイミン構造を部分構造として有しており、一般的な手法により得られたオリゴアニリン化合物は、未精製の場合、製造直後の560nmにおける吸光係数εが80〜100以上であることが多く、また、大気雰囲気下、常温で、例えば、720日間以下程度の期間保存後のオリゴアニリン化合物は、同吸光係数εが400〜1000程度であることが多い。
この第2の精製方法に供されるオリゴアニリン化合物は、上記吸光係数εを有しているものであれば、未精製のものでも、再結晶などの一般的な精製処理が施されたものでもよく、さらには、本発明の精製処理を施した後、所定期間保存して上記吸光係数を与える程度に再度酸化体が増加したものであってもよい。
オリゴアニリン化合物が、溶媒中の酸素で酸化される可能性があることから、オリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液の調製および再結晶処理に使用される溶媒は、脱気処理が施されていることが好ましい。脱気処理法は、特に限定されるものではなく、超音波脱気、真空脱気などの公知の脱気法から適宜選択すればよい。脱気後の溶媒中の酸素濃度(DO)は、特に限定されるものではないが、5%以下程度とすることが好ましく、より好ましくは3%以下、より一層好ましくは1%以下である。
また、オリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液中のオリゴアニリン濃度は、オリゴアニリンが完全に溶解し得る濃度以内であればよいが、活性炭処理時の操作性や、再結晶処理での精製度と回収率とのバランスなどを考慮すると、0.1〜10質量%が好ましく、1〜6質量%がより好ましい。
活性炭処理後、使用した活性炭を除去する手法に特に制限はないが、オリゴアニリン化合物が溶解している状態で熱時ろ過する手法が簡便である。また、ろ過の際には、固定相としてセライトを用いることが好ましい。この際、セライト使用量は任意であるが、活性炭に対して、10〜300質量%程度が好適である。
この点を考慮し、微量金属成分の除去効果を十分に発揮させつつ、オリゴアニリン化合物の回収率を90%以上とするためには、活性炭使用量を4〜15質量%とすることが好ましく、さらにオリゴアニリン化合物の回収率を95%以上とするためには、活性炭使用量を4〜10質量%とすることが好ましい。
なお、活性炭添加の基準となるオリゴアニリン化合物質量は、不純物を含む値である。
再結晶時の冷却温度は、溶解しているオリゴアニリン化合物が析出する温度以下であれば、特に制限はないが、通常、熱時ろ過したろ液を室温(20℃)程度まで放冷する手法が用いられる。
このような酸化体の含有量の低いオリゴアニリン化合物を用いて作製された電荷輸送性薄膜は、成膜性に優れたものとなる。
また、オリゴアニリン化合物を用いて作製される電荷輸送性薄膜を、電子デバイス用途に用いるためには、微量金属成分を1ppm以下など最小限まで減少させることが好ましいが、本発明の精製方法によれば、オリゴアニリン化合物中のLi、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの各金属成分の含有量を1ppm以下まで減少することもできる。
オルガノアミノ基の具体例としては、フェニルアミノ基,メチルアミノ基,エチルアミノ基,プロピルアミノ基,ブチルアミノ基,ペンチルアミノ基,ヘキシルアミノ基,ヘプチルアミノ基,オクチルアミノ基,ノニルアミノ基,デシルアミノ基,ラウリルアミノ基等のアルキルアミノ基、ジメチルアミノ基,ジエチルアミノ基,ジプロピルアミノ基,ジブチルアミノ基,ジペンチルアミノ基,ジヘキシルアミノ基,ジヘプチルアミノ基,ジオクチルアミノ基,ジノニルアミノ基,ジデシルアミノ基等のジアルキルアミノ基、シクロヘキシルアミノ基、モルホリノ基などが挙げられる。
オルガノチオ基の具体例としては、メチルチオ基、エチルチオ基、プロピルチオ基、ブチルチオ基、ペンチルチオ基、ヘキシルチオ基、ヘプチルチオ基、オクチルチオ基、ノニルチオ基、デシルチオ基、ラウリルチオ基などのアルキルチオ基等が挙げられる。
アルキル基、アルコキシ基、チオアルキル基、アルキルアミノ基、オルガノシロキシ基、オルガノシリル基などにおける炭素数は、特に限定されるものではないが、一般に炭素数1〜20、好ましくは1〜8である。
好ましい置換基としては、フッ素、スルホン酸基、置換もしくは非置換のオルガノオキシ基、アルキル基、オルガノシリル基が挙げられる。
特にR1が水素原子で、かつR3がフェニル基である化合物、すなわちオリゴアニリン化合物の両末端がフェニル基で封止されているものが好ましい。
なお、式(4)中の2つのベンゼン環において、同一の符号を付した置換基同士は互いに同一でも、異なっていてもよい。
このような化合物の具体例としては、フェニルテトラアニリン、フェニルペンタアニリン等の有機溶媒に可溶なオリゴアニリン化合物が挙げられる。
上記オリゴアニリン化合物の合成法としては特に限定されないが、一般的には、ブレティン・オブ・ケミカル・ソサエティ・オブ・ジャパン(Bulletin of Chemical Society of Japan)、1994年、第67巻、p.1749−1752、およびシンセティック・メタルズ(Synthetic Metals)、米国、1997年、第84巻、p.119−120に記載された方法が用いられる。
ここで、金属成分の含有量が低く、電子材料用途に好適なオリゴアニリン化合物であっても、酸化体の含有量が多い場合には、そのオリゴアニリン化合物を用いてなるワニスから作製した電荷輸送性薄膜の表面平均粗さRaが増大し、その結果、この薄膜を備える有機EL素子は、均一発光し得ない可能性が高い。
そこで、本発明の電荷輸送性ワニスから得られる薄膜中の異物発生などを抑制して薄膜の平坦化性を高めるとともに、有機EL素子の発光面の均一化を図るためには、560nmでの吸光係数εを好ましくは400以下、より好ましくは250以下、さらに好ましくは100以下、より一層好ましくは30以下まで低下させることが望ましい。
このような金属成分および酸化体の含有量が少ないオリゴアニリン化合物としては、例えば、上述の精製方法で得られるオリゴアニリン化合物が挙げられる。
ここで、Raが1nmを超えると、有機EL素子特性における発光効率が低下し、発光面が不均一になる可能性が高い。
この薄膜は、例えば、電荷輸送性ワニスを基材上に塗布し、溶剤を蒸発させることで、作製できる。ワニスの塗布方法としては特に限定されるものではなく、ディップ法、スピンコート法、転写印刷法、ロールコート法、インクジェット法、スプレー法、刷毛塗り等が挙げられる。
溶剤の蒸発法は、例えば、ホットプレートやオーブンを用いて、適宜な雰囲気下で蒸発を行えばよい。焼成温度は溶剤を蒸発させる温度であればよく、例えば、40〜250℃程度を採用できる。
電荷輸送性薄膜の膜厚は特に限定されないが、有機EL素子内で電荷注入層として用いる場合、5〜200nmが好適である。
具体的には、陰極および陽極と、これら各極間に介在する、電子輸送層、発光層、正孔輸送層、電荷注入層などの有機薄膜層とを備える有機EL素子において、特に電荷注入層として好適に用いることができる。
なお、有機EL素子を構成する陰極、陽極、電子輸送層、正孔輸送層および発光層を構成する材料などは、公知のものから適宜選択して用いればよい。
式(6)に示されるフェニルテトラアニリン(以下、PTAと略す)を、ブレティン・オブ・ケミカル・ソサエティ・オブ・ジャパン(Bulletin of Chemical Society of Japan)、1994年、第67巻、p.1749−1752に従って、p−ヒドロキシジフェニルアミンとp−フェニレンジアミンとから合成した(薄青色固体、収率85%)。
[実施例1]
1L三口丸底フラスコに、合成例1で得たPTA 20g(0.0452mmol)と、活性炭(純正化学(株)製) 2.0g(PTAに対して10質量%)と、超音波を用いて脱気した脱水1,4−ジオキサン(関東化学(株)製)500gとを、窒素雰囲気下で加えた。
次いで、オイルバスを使用して内温を90℃に保持したまま、1時間加熱攪拌し、PTAを完全に溶解させた。その後、桐山ガラス(S−60)、桐山ろ紙(3C)、固定相としてセライト(セライト545、純正化学(株)製) 50gを用いて、温度コントローラ付き水循環装置を90℃に保温したまま熱時ろ過を行い、活性炭を除去した。
その後、120℃に保持した真空乾燥機中で24時間減圧乾燥した。白色固体のPTA19.34gが得られた(回収率96.7%)。
なお、超音波を用いて脱気した後の溶媒(脱水1,4−ジオキサン)中の酸素濃度(DO)は1%未満であった。溶媒中の酸素濃度(DO)は、蛍光式酸素計〔FO−960(センサー:標準型 WPH−130),(株)オートマチックシステムリサーチ製〕を用いて測定した。この際、窒素を測定した時にDOは0%、空気を測定した時に20.9%として校正した。
以下、超音波を用いて脱気した溶媒は全てDOが1%未満であることを確認して使用した。
1L三口丸底フラスコに、合成例1で得たPTA 20g(0.0452mmol)と、超音波を用いて脱気した脱水1,4−ジオキサン500gとを窒素雰囲気下で加えた。
次いで、オイルバスを使用して内温を90℃に保持したまま、1時間加熱攪拌し、PTAを完全に溶解させた。その後、桐山ガラス(S−60)、桐山ろ紙(3C)、固定相としてセライト(セライト545) 50gを用いて、温度コントローラ付き水循環装置を90℃に保温したまま熱時ろ過を行った。
1L三口丸底フラスコに、合成例1で得たPTA 20g(0.0452mmol)と活性炭 2g(PTAに対して10質量%)と、超音波を用いて脱気した脱水1,4−ジオキサン500gとを、窒素雰囲気下にて加えた。
次いで、オイルバスを使用して内温を90℃に保持したまま、1時間加熱攪拌し、PTAを完全に溶解させた。次いで、桐山ガラス(S−60)、桐山ろ紙(3C)、固定相としてセライト(セライト545) 50gを用いて、温度コントローラ付き水循環装置を90℃に保温したまま熱時ろ過を行い、活性炭を除去した。
得られた青色のPTAを、グローブボックス中でジエチルエーテル200mLにて洗浄した。洗浄後のPTAを、グローブボックス中でフッ素樹脂ミクロスパーテルにて100mL丸底フラスコに移し取り、3方コックを用いて減圧後、窒素パージした。その後、120℃に保持した真空乾燥機中で24時間減圧乾燥した。青色固体のPTA0.82g(回収率4.1%)が得られた。
溶媒中で析出した白色固体のPTAと、ろ液から回収した青色固体のPTAとを均一に混合し、活性炭処理のみの効果を確認するPTAとした。
1L三口丸底フラスコに、合成例1で得たPTA 20g(0.0452mmol)と、超音波を用いて脱気した脱水1,4−ジオキサン500gとを窒素雰囲気下で加えた。
次いで、オイルバスを使用して内温を90℃に保持したまま、1時間加熱攪拌し、PTAを完全に溶解させた。その後、内温が20℃になるまで放冷した。放冷後、PTAが析出した紫色溶液は反応容器に入れたまま、グローブボックスに移し、相対湿度が5%になるまで窒素フローを行った。相対湿度5%を保持して、PTAはグローブボックス中でブフナーロートを用いて吸引ろ過した。ブフナーロート上のPTAを、1,4−ジオキサン200mL、脱水トルエン200mL、ジエチルエーテル200mLの順序で洗浄した。洗浄後のPTAをグローブボックス中でフッ素樹脂ミクロスパーテルにて100mL丸底フラスコに移し取り、3方コックを用いて減圧後、窒素パージした。その後、120℃に保持した真空乾燥機中で24時間減圧乾燥した。白色固体のPTA19.58g(回収率97.9%)が得られた。
PTAは芳香環由来の320nm付近に、PTAの酸化体はキノンジイミン構造由来の560nm付近に吸収極大を有している。したがって、560nm付近の吸光係数εが大きくなればなるほど、酸化体を多く含んでいることになる。吸光係数εは材料によって固有の数値であることから、定量の信頼性は高い物性値である。そこで、上記実施例1および比較例1〜3で得られたPTAに含有する酸化体の割合を調べるため、紫外−可視吸収(UV−VIS)スペクトルを、下記手法により測定し、吸光係数εを求めた。なお、溶液調整、測定に要する時間は、溶液中で各々のPTAが酸化されてεの値が不正確にならないように全て規格化した。なお、UV−VISスペクトルの測定は、紫外可視吸光光度計(UV−3100PC、(株)島津製作所製)を用いて行った。
メスアップ後、メスフラスコ内の溶液に濃度勾配が生じないように、2分間かけて溶液を振とうした。次いで、3分間かけてアセトニトリルのベースラインを補正した。完全に均一に溶解したPTAの調整溶液をUV−VISスペクトルにてベースライン補正の1分後に測定した。なお、UV−VISスペクトル測定に使用したセルは、溶液の厚みが1cmとなる石英セルを使用した。
UV−VISスペクトル測定において、吸収極大波長(λmax)が560nm付近に現れたPTAの酸化体に起因する吸光度Aを表1に示す。また、この吸光度Aからランベルト−ベールの式(A=εcl:溶液の厚み=c[cm]、溶液の濃度=l[mol/L])にしたがって吸光係数εを算出した。その値も併せて表1に示す。
また、活性炭処理のみの比較例2では、吸光係数εが格段に上昇しているが、これは、溶媒を濃縮して得たPTAでは、酸化体の量が増大していることが原因であると考えられる。なお、ろ液から取り出したPTAのみを用いて、上記と同様に吸光度を測定し、吸光係数εを算出すると5556.4338であり、非常に高い値を示した。このことから、活性炭処理、ろ液濃縮という操作では、PTAを精製できないことがわかる。
合成例1で得られた直後のPTA(対照)、並びに実施例1および比較例1〜3で精製したそれぞれのPTAに含まれるLi、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの各金属量を、下記手法により分析した。結果を表2に示す。
微量金属分析は、誘導結合プラズマ発光分析装置(Vista−Pro、セイコーインスツルメンス社製)を用い、PTA200mgを硝酸3mL、硫酸1mLでマイクロウェーブ分解後、20g(100倍希釈)で回収し、ICP発光にて測定した。
これに対し、活性炭処理および再結晶処理を行った実施例1のPTAは、残存金属分がLi、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの全てにおいて1ppm以下となっていることがわかる。
また、再結晶処理のみの比較例1およびセライト処理のみの比較例3で得られたPTAでは、残存Tiを十分に除去できていないことがわかる。
一方、活性炭処理のみを行った比較例2では、実施例1同様全ての金属分が1ppm以下となっていることから、微量金属分の除去には、活性炭処理が効果を発揮することが伺える。
以上示したように、PTAに含まれる酸化体および微量金属成分の双方を、簡便かつ効率的に除去する方法として、活性炭処理および再結晶処理の2つの処理を施す実施例1の精製方法が最適であることがわかる。
活性炭の使用量を、0.2g(PTAに対して1質量%,比較例4)、0.4g(同2質量%,比較例5)、0.8g(同4質量%,実施例2)、1.2g(同6質量%,実施例3)、1.6g(同8質量%,実施例4)、2.0g(同10質量%,実施例5)、3.0g(同15質量%,実施例6)、4.0g(同20質量%,実施例7)に代えた以外は、実施例1と同様にして、PTAを精製した。実施例2〜7および比較例4,5におけるPTAの回収量および回収率を表3に示す。なお、実施例2〜7および比較例4,5で得られたPTAは、全て白色固体であった。
さらに、実施例2〜7および比較例4,5で精製した各PTAについて、上記の微量金属成分を測定した。結果を併せて表3に示す。
これに対し、4質量%以上使用している実施例2〜7では、Tiを1ppm以下まで削減できていることがわかる。ただし、実施例6,7の結果から、活性炭量が15質量%を超えると、PTAの回収率が低下することがわかる。
実施例1で得られたPTAを、23℃、相対湿度45%の環境下で720日間保存した。この保存後のPTAについて、再度、実施例1と同様の精製を行い、白色固体のPTA19.30g(回収率96.5%)を得た。720日間保存後のPTA(対照)およびこれを精製して得られたPTAについて、実施例1と同様に、溶液を調製後、UV−VISスペクトルを測定した。UV−VISスペクトル測定において、吸収極大波長が560nm付近に現れた酸化体に起因する吸光度Aおよび吸光係数εを表4に示す。
[実施例9]
実施例1で精製したPTA 0.0500g(0.1130mmol)と、式(7)に示される5−スルホサリチル酸(5−SSA)0.0986g(0.4520mmol)とを、窒素雰囲気下、N,N−ジメチルアセトアミド(DMAc)0.8757gに完全に溶解させた。得られた溶液にシクロヘキサノール(c−HexOH)2.6270gを加えて攪拌し、電荷輸送性ワニスを調製した(固形分4.2%)。
実施例1で得られたPTAを室温23℃、湿度45%で370日間保存した。370日間保存したPTAは、実施例1と同様にして、溶液を調製後、UV−VISスペクトルを測定し、吸収極大波長560nm付近に現れた酸化体に起因する吸光係数εを算出したところ、211.8242と高い値を示し、酸化体が多く含まれていることがわかった。なお、370日間保存後のPTAは、既に活性炭処理、セライトろ過、再結晶工程からなる精製を施していることから、微量金属成分およびそれらの含有量は実施例1と同一であり、酸化体の含有量だけが異なっている。
このPTAを用い、実施例9と同様にして電荷輸送性ワニスを調製した。
実施例8で精製したPTAを用い、実施例9と同様にして電荷輸送性ワニスを調製した。
実施例8で調製し、精製に使用した720日間保存後のPTAを用い、実施例9と同様にして電荷輸送性ワニスを調製した。なお、このPTAの吸収極大波長560nm付近に現れた酸化体に起因する吸光係数εは上述のとおり、409.4214である。このPTAも、既に活性炭処理、セライトろ過、再結晶工程からなる精製を施していることから、微量金属成分およびそれらの含有量は実施例1と同一であり、酸化体の含有量だけが異なっている。
これらの薄膜について、原子間力顕微鏡(AFM、ナノスコープIV型 ディメンション3100、ビーコインスツルメンツ社デジタルインスツルメンツ製)にて観察を行うとともに、□5×5μmの範囲で表面平均粗さ(Ra)を測定した。なお、AFM測定は、走査が1Hz、zレンジが100nmとしてTapping法を使用して行った。
図1に実施例9のAFM図を、図2に実施例10のAFM図を、図3に比較例6のAFM図を示す。また、実施例9〜11および比較例6のRa値を表5に示す。
比較例6の結果に示されるように、吸光係数εが409.4214と、酸化体を多く含むPTAを使用した電荷輸送性ワニスから得られた電荷輸送性薄膜のRaは、6.302nmとなり、実施例9〜10のRaと比べて約20倍程粗くなっていることがわかる。
また、図1,2と図3とを比較すると、比較例6の薄膜を示した図3では、電荷輸送性薄膜の膜表面に海島状に局在化する1μm前後の異物が発生していることがわかる。これらの結果から、酸化体が一定量以上含まれていると、成膜性が著しく悪化することがわかる。
[実施例12]
実施例9で調製した電荷輸送性ワニスを、ITO付きガラス基板上にスピンコート法にて塗布し、30nmの正孔輸送性薄膜を形成した。その後、薄膜を形成した基板を真空蒸着装置内に導入し、α−NPD、Alq3、LiF、およびAlを順次蒸着し、OLED素子を作製した。膜厚は、それぞれ40nm、60nm、0.5nm、100nmとし、それぞれ8×10-4Pa以下の圧力となってから蒸着操作を行った。その際の蒸着レートはLiF以外の材料については0.3〜0.4nm/s、LiFについては0.02〜0.04nm/sとした。一連の蒸着操作は全ての層を蒸着するまで真空下で行った。
実施例10で調製した電荷輸送性ワニスを用いた以外は、実施例12と同様にしてOLED素子を作製した。
実施例11で調製した電荷輸送性ワニスを用いた以外は、実施例12と同様にしてOLED素子を作製した。
比較例7で調製した電荷輸送性ワニスを用いた以外は、実施例12と同様にしてOLED素子を作製した。
上記実施例12〜14および比較例7で作製したOLED素子について、素子特性を測定した。素子特性、Ip、導電率を表6に示す。
導電率は、ITO付きガラス基板上に正孔輸送性薄膜を形成した後、真空蒸着装置内に導入し、Alを100nm蒸着し、膜厚30nm、100mA/cm2通電時の電流−電圧特性から算出した。なお、膜厚は表面形状測定装置(DEKTAK3ST、日本真空技術社製)を、Ipは、光電子分光装置(AC−2、理研計器社製)を使用して測定した。
さらに、実施例12で作製したOLED素子を8Vで駆動した時の発光面を図4に、実施例13で作製したOLED素子を8Vで駆動した時の発光面を図5に、実施例14で作製したOLED素子を8Vで駆動した時の発光面を図6に、比較例7で作製したOLED素子を8Vで駆動した時の発光面を図7に示す。なお、発光面の観察は、光学顕微鏡ECLIPSE ME600((株)ニコン製)を使用し、倍率10倍で観察し、撮影した。
駆動電圧が低下するにも関わらず、発光効率が低下する原因は、図4〜7を比較、検討するとわかる。すなわち、実施例12〜14で作製したOLED素子では、図4〜6に示されるように、駆動して発光している発光面が均一であることが確認できる。一方、比較例7で作製したOLED素子では、図7に示されるように、発光面内でダークスポットあるいは輝点などが多く、発光面が不均一であることが確認できる。すなわち、比較例7のOLED素子では、ダークスポットや輝点部分に電荷が集中し、駆動電圧は低下するものの、面内での発光均一性が損なわれるために発光効率が低下していると考えられる。ダークスポットや輝点などの電界発光における不均一部分は、正孔注入層の表面粗さに関係しているものと推測されるが、当該部分は、有機EL素子の電気短絡を促進し、発光ムラの原因となり、プロセスマージンを拡大し、安価で生産効率のよい有機EL素子が提供できなくなる要因の一つである。
なお、実施例14から明らかなように、酸化体が多量に生じたPTAであっても、本発明の精製方法を用いて再度精製して使用すれば、もとから酸化体が少ないPTAを用いた実施例12と同程度の良好な素子特性を発揮するOLED素子が得られることがわかる。
Claims (11)
- 製造後の未精製の式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を、溶媒に溶かしてオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を調製し、このオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を、前記オリゴアニリン化合物に対して4〜20質量%の活性炭で処理した後、さらに再結晶処理し、560nmにおける吸光係数εが30以下である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を得ることを特徴とするオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法。
- 酸化体を含み、560nmにおける吸光係数εが80〜1000である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を、溶媒に溶かしてオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を調製し、このオリゴアニリン化合物含有溶液を、前記オリゴアニリン化合物に対して4〜20質量%の活性炭で処理した後、さらに再結晶処理し、560nmにおける吸光係数εが30以下である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を得ることを特徴とするオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法。
- Li、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの各金属成分の含有量が1ppm以下である式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物を得る請求項1または2記載のオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法。
- 前記オリゴアニリン化合物が、式(4)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物である請求項1〜3のいずれか1項記載のオリゴアニリン化合物の精製方法。
- Li、Mg、Ca、Fe、Cu、Zn、Ti、Sn、NaおよびKの各金属成分の含有量が1ppm以下であり、560nmにおける吸光係数εが、400以下であることを特徴とする式(1)で表されるオリゴアニリン化合物。
- 式(4)で表される請求項5記載のオリゴアニリン化合物。
- 請求項5または6記載のオリゴアニリン化合物を含むことを特徴とする電荷輸送性ワニス。
- 請求項7記載の電荷輸送性ワニスから作製され、表面平均粗さRaが1nm以下であることを特徴とする電荷輸送性薄膜。
- 請求項7記載の電荷輸送性ワニスを用いることを特徴とする電荷輸送性薄膜の製造方法。
- 請求項8記載の電荷輸送性薄膜、または請求項9の製造方法で得られた電荷輸送性薄膜を備えることを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 請求項8記載の電荷輸送性薄膜、または請求項9の製造方法で得られた電荷輸送性薄膜を用いることを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子の製造方法。
