Description
発明は、前記実施例に限定されるものではなく、その要旨を逸脱しない範囲において種々変更可能であることは勿論である。また、前記実施例の図面において封止材5の幅を封入孔4の幅と同等に記載したが,この幅は封入孔よりも大きければ差し支えなく,最大には封入孔のあるガラス端辺の全幅であってもよい。
Claims (7)
- 第1のガラス基板と、第2のガラス基板と、前記第1のガラス基板と前記第2のガラス基板とを所定の間隙を介してシール材で貼り合わせた液晶パネルと、前記間隙に保持される液晶とを有する液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記液晶パネルの少なくとも1辺に、前記液晶を封入する封入孔を有し、
前記封入孔から前記液晶を封入する封入工程と、
前記封入孔を封止材で封止する封止工程と、
第1のガラス基板と第2のガラス基板の前記封入孔が形成される側の辺を、前記第1のガラス基板及び前記第2のガラス基板の端部から中央部に向かって厚さが増加する形状に加工し、前記第1のガラス基板に第1の面取り部を、且つ前記第2のガラス基板に第2の面取り部を形成する面取り工程と、
前記第1のガラス基板及び前記第2のガラス基板を化学研磨によってエッチングするエッチング工程とを有し、
前記第1の基板は、前記第2の基板と対向する面とは反対側の第1の主面と、前記封止材と接する第1の側面を有し、
前記第2の基板は、前記第1の基板と対向する面とは反対側の第2の主面と、前記封止材と接する第2の側面を有し、
前記第1の面取り部は、前記第1の主面及び前記第1の側面とに接しており、
前記第2の面取り部は、前記第2の主面及び前記第2の側面とに接しており、
前記面取り工程は、前記第1の面取り部及び前記第2の面取り部を形成すると共に、前記封止材に、前記第1の面取り部と接する第3の面取り部と前記第2の面取り部と接する第4の面取り部とを形成することを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記液晶パネルの厚さ方向における前記封止材の幅は、エッチング工程後の前記液晶パネルの厚さ以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記第1のガラス基板の前記液晶と対向する側の面の、前記シール材の外側には、外部からの信号等を入力する端子が形成された端子部を有し、
前記端子部の外側に端子部保護用のシール材が形成して前記エッチング工程を行うことを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記第1のガラス基板の前記液晶と対向する側の面の、前記シール材の外側には、外部からの信号等を入力する端子が形成された端子部を有し、
前記端子部に耐エッチング性の保護膜を形成して前記エッチング工程を行うことを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記第1のガラス基板の前記液晶と対向する側の面の、前記シール材の外側には、外部からの信号等を入力する端子が形成された端子部を有し、
前記端子部にはフレキシブル回路基板が接続され、
前記端子部及び前記フレキシブル回路基板の表面に耐エッチング性の保護膜を形成して前記エッチング工程を行うことを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記第1のガラス基板及び前記第2のガラス基板の前記エッチング工程後の厚さは、0.2mm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項5の何れか1項に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板の前記封入孔が形成されていない側の辺は、面取り部が形成されていないことを特徴とする請求項1から請求項6の何れか1項に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
