Description
本願は、1996年7月19日に出願された米国仮出願シリアルNo.60/022,222に対する優先権を主張する。この出願の内容全体を、本明細書中で参考として援用する。
現在、導体およびレジスタの印刷は、回路板製造の技術分野においてよく知られている。論理素子を組み込むための標準的な方法は、半導体チップを回路板表面上に実装することである。今のところ、任意の基材上に論理素子を直接印刷するシステムは存在しない。
概して本発明は、電子的に活性なインクのシステムと、標準的な真空処理またはエッチングを必要とせずに、様々な基材上に任意のパターンでインクを印刷する手段とを提供する。インクは、機械的特性、電気的特性または他の特性を組み込み得、且つ以下の機能を提供し得るが、それらに限定されない:その機能とは、導電性、絶縁性、抵抗性、磁性、半導電性、光変調特性、圧電性、スピン特性、光電子特性または熱電性である。
従来技術において、電子ディスプレイに使用する二色性粒子または微粒子を製造する手段が知られている。このような技術は、移入された(implanted)双極子モーメントを持たず、通常、材料のゼータ電位に依存して永久双極子を生成する粒子を製造する。このような機構は、材料特性を電子特性と結び付けるため、形成され得る双極子モーメントの大きさを制限するという欠点を有する。図1は、移入された双極子モーメントを有する粒子であって、静電気ディスプレイに使用され得る二色性粒子、または誘電泳動ディスプレイ(dielectrophoretic display)に使用され得る単色粒子の、いずれかの粒子を製造する手段を詳細に示す。
Claims (8)
- マイクロカプセルを有する電気的にアドレシング可能なインクであって、該マイクロカプセルは、
第1の電荷を有する第1の粒子であって、該第1の電荷は第1の極性を有する、第1の粒子と、
第2の電荷を有する第2の粒子であって、該第2の電荷は該第1の極性と反対の第2の極性を有する、第2の粒子と、
該第1の極性を有する電界を該マイクロカプセルに印加することにより、該電界に応答して該第1および第2の粒子のうち一方を1つの方向に泳動させることにより、知覚される色変化を起こす、インク。 - 前記第1および第2の粒子の両方が前記電界に応答して移動する、請求項1に記載のインク。
- 前記第1の粒子は色を有する、請求項1に記載のインク。
- 前記第1の粒子は染料を包含する、請求項1に記載のインク。
- 前記第1の粒子は、染料インジケータ系をさらに包含する、請求項1に記載のインク。
- 前記第1および第2の粒子は、電界がないときにおいて実質的に移動的でない、請求項1に記載のインク。
- 前記第2の粒子は、前記第1の粒子と反応可能な物質を包含しており、第1の電界の印加により、前記インクが第1の色状態に維持されるように該第1の粒子は該物質から離れて維持され、第2の電界の印加により、該第1の粒子および該物質が反応して第2の色状態を有する化合物を形成する、請求項1に記載のインク。
- 前記第1および第2の電界のうち少なくとも一方がゼロであるときに、前記第1の粒子および前記物質が反応して色状態を有する化合物を形成する、請求項7に記載のインク。
