Abstract
【解決手段】溶融塩電池で電解質として用いる溶融塩は、FSAイオン等の[R1−SO2 −N−SO2 −R2]−で表されるイオンをアニオンとし、Naイオンをカチオンとした塩と、他のアルカリ金属又はアルカリ土類金属のイオンをカチオンとした塩との混合塩である。正極1の活物質は、Nax M1y M21−yO2 (但し、M1はFe又はNi、M2はMn又はTi、0<x≦1、0<y<1)で表される金属酸化物である。正極1の活物質は、例えば、Na2/3 Fe1/3 Mn2/3 O2 である。溶融塩電池が低温で動作するので、電池の温度を動作温度まで上昇させるための時間が短縮され、また電解質が不揮発性でしかも不燃性であるので、溶融塩電池は安全性が高い。

Description
図1は、本発明の溶融塩電池の構成例を示す模式的断面図である。図1には、溶融塩電池を縦に切断した模式的断面図を示している。溶融塩電池は、上面が開口した直方体の箱状の電池容器51内に、矩形板状の正極1、シート状のセパレータ3及び矩形板状の負極2を並べて配置し、電池容器51に蓋部52を冠着して構成されている。電池容器51及び蓋部52はAl(アルミニウム)で形成されている。正極1及び負極2は矩形平板状に形成されており、セパレータ3はシート状に形成されている。セパレータ3は正極1及び負極2の間に介装されている。正極1、セパレータ3及び負極2は、重ねられ、電池容器51の底面に対して縦に配置されている。
Nax M1y M21−yO2 …(2)
正極活物質としてNa2/3 Fe1/3 Mn2/3 O2 を用いた溶融塩電池の充放電特性を調べる実験を行った。まず、Na2 O2 (過酸化ナトリウム)、α−Fe2 O3 (α−酸化鉄(III))及びMn2 O3 (酸化マンガン(III))を原料として、正極活物質であるNa2/3 Fe1/3 Mn2/3 O2 を作成した。具体的には、2.98gのNa2 O2 (和光純薬工業製、純度85%以上)、3.00gのα−Fe2 O3 (和光純薬工業製、純度99.9%)及び5.93gのMn2 O3 (和光純薬工業製、純度99%)をグローブボックス内で混合し、ペレット状に粉末成型した。複数個作成した夫々のペレットの質量は5g前後であり、粉末成型の圧力は64kg/cm2 である。次に、作成したペレットを空気中で900℃の温度で12時間焼成することにより、Na2/3 Fe1/3 Mn2/3 O2 を生成させた。Na2/3 Fe1/3 Mn2/3 O2 が生成する化学反応式は下記の(3)式で表される。

Claims (2)
- 前記金属酸化物は、組成式がNa2/3 Fe1/3 Mn2/3 O2 、Na5/6 Fe1/2 Mn1/2 O2 、NaFe1/2 Ti1/2 O2 、又はNaNi1/2 Mn1/2 O2 で表される金属酸化物であること
を特徴とする請求項1に記載の溶融塩電池。
