外科手術手順において使用される電磁エネルギー場のサイズおよび形状の、ユーザによる下見および制御を可能にするための、システムおよび方法が開示される。開示されるシステムは、グラフィカルユーザインターフェースおよびデータベースと作動可能に通信する、約900mHz〜約5gHzの範囲のマイクロ波外科手術エネルギーの選択的に起動可能な供給源を備える。このデータベースは、種々の外科手術用プローブ(例えば、マイクロ波切除アンテナプローブ)に対応するデータ(プローブ識別子、プローブ直径、プローブの作動周波数、プローブの切除長さ、プローブの切除直径、時間的定数、形状距離などを含み得る)に占められている。このプローブデータは、グラフィカルユーザインターフェースに図で提供され、この図を外科医が対話式に見ることができ、そして、適切な外科手術プローブを選択し得る。プローブの三次元の図が提供され得、表示された画像を外科医が対話式に回転させることを可能にする。
