Description
熱可塑性基材と反射金属層からなる反射性物品は、現在、自動車用ヘッドライトの反射板を始めとして各種の製品用途に用いられている。かかる物品は、周囲温度では良好に機能し得るが、ある種の製造及び使用条件で遭遇する高温では、反射コーティングにおけるヘイズの生成によってその反射性が損なわれ得る。
ポリエーテルイミド(ULTEM(登録商標)1010)の3.2mm厚のプラックを、300ワットに設定したDCマグネトロン源を用いて真空下アルミニウムでスパッタリングすることにより金属化して約100〜200nmの厚さを有する反射層を形成した。このプラックを190℃、200℃、そして215℃に順次設定された対流式空気オーブンに入れた。215℃で15分後、反射層は曇って赤みがかって見えた。
比較例1の手順に従ったが、ポリエーテルイミドプラックは100〜200nm厚のアルミニウム層でコートする前にDCマグネトロンスパッタリングにより60nm厚の金でコートした。この試料をオーブン処理したところ、金を含まない試料と同様の結果が得られた。すなわち、215℃で15分後、反射層は曇って赤みがかって見えた。
比較例1の手順に従ったが、DCマグネトロンスパッタリングにより60nmの金層でコートしたポリエーテルイミドプラックはアルミニウムで金属化しなかった。この試料をオーブン処理したところ、アルミニウムを含む試料と同様な結果が得られた。すなわち、215℃で15分後、反射層は曇って赤みがかって見えた。
ポリエーテルイミド(ULTEM(登録商標)1010)の3.2mm厚のプラックを、300ワットに設定したDCマグネトロン源を用いて真空下クロムでスパッタリングすることにより金属化して15nmのクロムからなるヘイズ低減層を形成し、次に100〜200nmのアルミニウム反射層でコートした。対流式オーブン中215℃で30分後反射層にヘイズが観察された。215℃でヘイズが発生するまでの時間は、ヘイズ低減層をもたない比較例1又は反射性アルミニウム層の下に金層を有する比較例3と比べて二倍であった。
実施例1の手順に従ったが、クロムからなるヘイズ低減層の厚さを100nmに増やした。対流式オーブン中215℃で75分後に反射層にヘイズが観察された。比較例1〜実施例2は、ヘイズが生じるまでの時間がクロムヘイズ防止層の厚さの増大の関数として増大することを示している。

Claims (10)
- ASTM D648に従って66psiで測定して約140℃以上の熱変形温度を有する非晶質熱可塑性樹脂を含む基材(20)、
反射金属層(30)、及び
基材と反射金属層との間に挟まれたヘイズ防止層(40)
を含んでなり、ヘイズ防止層がASTM D638に従って25℃で測定して約15×106psi以上の引張弾性率を有する金属を含む、反射性物品(10)。 - 非晶質熱可塑性樹脂が、ポリエーテルイミド、ポリエーテルイミドスルホン、ポリスルホン、ポリエーテルスルホン、ポリフェニレンエーテルスルホン、ポリ(アリーレンエーテル)、ポリカーボネート、ポリエステルカーボネート、ポリアリーレート及びこれらの混合物から選択される、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- 反射金属層(30)が、アルミニウム、銀、金、ニッケル、パラジウム、白金、銅及びこれらの合金からなる群から選択される金属を含む、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- 反射金属層(30)が約10〜約1000nmの厚さを有する、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- ヘイズ防止層(40)が、アンチモン、クロム、コバルト、銅、イリジウム、鉄、モリブデン、ニッケル、パラジウム、白金、レニウム、ロジウム、タンタル、チタン、タングステン、バナジウム及びこれらの合金から選択される金属を含む、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- ヘイズ防止層(40)がクロムを含む、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- ヘイズ防止層(40)が約1〜約1000nmの厚さを有する、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- さらに、ASTM D1003に従って測定して90%以上の透過率を有する保護層を含んでおり、前記反射層がヘイズ防止層と保護層との間に挟まれている、請求項1記載の反射性物品(10)。
- 約170℃以上のガラス転移温度を有するポリエーテルイミド樹脂を含む基材(20)、
アルミニウムを含む反射金属層(30)、及び
基材と反射金属層との間に挟まれたヘイズ防止層(40)
を含んでなり、前記ヘイズ防止層がクロムを含み、ASTM D638に従って25℃で測定して約30×106psi以上の引張弾性率を有する、反射性物品(10)。 - ASTM D648に従って66psiで測定して約140℃以上の熱変形温度を有する非晶質熱可塑性樹脂を含む基材(20)の表面に、ASTM D638に従って25℃で測定して約15×106psi以上の引張弾性率を有する金属を含むヘイズ防止層(40)を設け、
ヘイズ防止層(40)の表面に反射金属層(30)を設ける
ことを含んでなる、反射性物品(10)の製造方法。
