Abstract
Description

D照明システムに関する。ハイブリッド照明システムは、白色光を生成するため
にLED又は蛍光LEDを使用する従来のLED照明システムよりも改善された
性能を示す。
光LEDのいずれかを含む。LEDを使用する照明システムは、赤色LED、緑
色LED、及び青色LEDの様々な組み合わせを組み合わせて白色光を生成する
。蛍光LEDに基づく照明システムは、青色光LEDに加えて、1つ以上の様々
なルミネセンス蛍光材料を使用し、放出された青色光の一部をより長い波長の光
に変換することによって白色光を生成する。
パッケージレベルにおいて効率がよい。しかし、LEDに基づく照明システムで
は、高品質の白色光を達成することがより困難である。これは、照明システムの
全体の性能と生産量を最適化するよう製造されるLEDは典型的に、フルの定格
出力で動作されるときに、赤色光、緑色光、及び青色光の必要な量を与えるよう
望ましくなく大きい個数のLEDチップを組み合わせなければならないからであ
る。更に、LEDチップは、適当なバランスを達成するために異なる寸法で製造
されなければならず、これによりシステムの生産費用が増加されてしまう。緑色
LEDチップ及び青色LEDチップは同様のAlInGaN技術によって製造さ
れるので、これらのチップを同様の寸法及び妥当に大きく形成すると製造面及び
費用面での利点がある。
常に好適な光スペクトル波長で動作する緑色LEDは、非常に効率が悪い。最も
発光効率のよい緑色LEDは、約530nmのあまり好適ではない光スペクトル
波長で動作する。更に、現在利用可能である効率のよいLEDは、良好な演色を
達成することが困難である。良好な演色は可能であるが、LEDの特定の選択に
制限をもたらす。

22と、約450乃至470nmのスペクトル波長を有する光線を放出する青色
LED及び青色光の一部(典型的には約50%)を約550nmのスペクトル波
長を有する緑色光に変換する蛍光体材料から構成される蛍光LED24とを含む
。本発明のこの実施例は、適当な出力バランスを与え、従来のLEDの基づく照
明システムに使用されるあまり効率のよくない緑色LED(典型的に約530n
mのスペクトル波長を有する光線を放出する)を必要としなくなるので、従来の
LEDに基づく照明システムに匹敵するか又は超えるシステム全体としての効率
を達成することが可能である(蛍光LEDは、550nmの範囲により良好に到
達しやすく、従って、ルーメン毎ワットにおいて利点を有するので緑色LEDチ
ップよりも基本的により効率がよい)。
より容易であり、且つ、効果的であり、3つ及び4つのLEDを典型的に使用す
る従来の照明システムよりあまり複雑でないLED駆動電子装置が必要となる。

バイナリーの混合スキームでは、従来のLEDに基づく照明システムに必要とさ
れる2つの合わせる段階と比べて、本発明のシステム20の2つのLED22、
24を合わせるには1つの合わせる段階のみが必要となる。従って、本発明の実
施例は、従来のLEDに基づく照明システムの混合損失の約半分の混合損失を被
る。従って、従来のLEDに基づく照明システムと比較すると、本発明の実施例
では、かなり高いシステム全体としての効率が実現されることが可能である。カ
ラーポイントは線に沿ってのみ調節することが可能であるが、蛍光LED24に
よって与えられる550nmの光線によって演色は適当である。従って、色温度
に対する制御は設計点においてのみ可能である。しかし、このような本発明の実
施例は、あまり高価でないLED駆動電子装置が望ましく、色温度に対し完全な
る融通性は余り重要でない低費用の照明システム適用において、固定された白色
光を生成するために特に有用である。
テム30は、赤色LED32(約610nmのスペクトル波長の光線を放出する
)、緑色LED34(約530nmのスペクトル波長の光線を放出する)、及び
、青色LED(約450nm乃至約470nmの間で放出する)と放出された青
色光の一部(約50%)を赤色光(約610nm)に変換する蛍光体材料とから
構成される蛍光LED36を含む。赤色光の十分でない量及び青色光の過剰な量
を典型的に生成する従来のLEDに基づくシステムと比較すると、本発明のシス
テムのこの実施例に使用される蛍光LED36は、赤色光出力における不足を釣
り合わせ、青色光出力を減衰し、それにより3つのLEDのみで良好なカラーバ
ランスを与える。演色及び色温度の制御は、従来のLEDに基づく照明システム
に匹敵する。特に、3つのLEDを使用することは、駆動電流を調節することに
より3つのLEDの輝度を単純に上げたり下げたりすることによってバランスを
変えることが可能となるよう蛍光LED36の赤色含有量(content)は十分に
小さいので、色温度を自由に調節することが可能である一方で最大ルーメン含有
量を与えることが可能となる。
テム40は、2つの赤色LED42、44(約610nmで放出する)、緑色L
ED46(約530nmで放出する)、及び、青色LED(約450乃至約47
0nmで放出する)と青色光の一部を約550nmのスペクトル波長を有する緑
色光に変換する蛍光体材料とから構成される蛍光LED48を含む。蛍光体は、
約50%の出力変換効率を有するので、蛍光LED48によって十分な量の青色
光及び緑色光が発生され、それにより550nmの光線があることによって最高
のバランス及び演色が設計点において与えられる。更に、550nmの光線はよ
り大きいルーメン含有量を形成するので、それにより本発明のシステムのこの実
施例は、蛍光体の変換エネルギー損失を考慮してもより高いルーメン出力を与え
る。
テム50は、2つの赤色LED52、54、緑色LED56、及び、青色光及び
緑色光を放出する蛍光LED58を含み、第3の実施例と略同一である。しかし
、2つの赤色LED52、54は2つの僅かに異なるスペクトル波長(約610
nm及び約595nm)で光線を放出する。約595nmで放出する赤色LED
は、橙−琥珀色のような赤色を生成し、これは演色に更なる改善をもたらす。
テム60は、2つの赤色LED62、64、緑色LED56、及び、蛍光LED
68を含み、第3の実施例と略同一である。しかし、蛍光LED68は、青色光
の一部を緑色光に変換する550nmの光スペクトル波長で放出する第1の蛍光
体材料と、第1の蛍光体材料によって変換されない残りの青色光の一部を琥珀又
は黄−緑色光に変換する第2の蛍光体材料とを有する青色LEDから構成される
。この実施例は演色において更なる改善を示し、従って、最大の演色を必要とす
る適用において有用である。
テム70は、第4の実施例と第5の実施例の特徴を組み合わせ、従って、第1の
赤色LED72(約610nmで放出する)、第2の赤色LED74(約595
nmで放出する)、緑色LED76(約530nmで放出する)、及び蛍光LE
D78を含む。蛍光LEDは、青色LED(約450nm乃至約470nmで放
出する)と、青色光の一部を緑色光に変換し、約550nmの光スペクトル波長
で放出する第1の蛍光体材料と、第1の蛍光体材料によって変換されない残りの
青色光の一部を琥珀又は黄−緑色光に変換する第2の蛍光体材料とから構成され
る。この実施例も、最適化された演色を必要とする適用において特に有用である

- 【請求項1】 少なくとも1つの第1の発光ダイオードと、 上記少なくとも1つの第1の発光ダイオードに隣接して配置される蛍光−発光
ダイオードとを含む、白色光を生成するための照明システム。 - 【請求項2】 上記蛍光−発光ダイオードは、少なくとも2つの異なる色の
光線を放出する請求項1記載の照明システム。 - 【請求項3】 少なくとも1つの第2の発光ダイオードを更に含む請求項1
記載の照明システム。 - 【請求項4】 上記蛍光−発光ダイオードは、少なくとも2つの異なる色の
光線を放出し、 上記少なくとも2つの色のうちの1つの色は、上記少なくとも1つの第2の発
光ダイコードによって放出される色と少なくとも略同一である請求項3記載の照
明システム。 - 【請求項5】 上記発光ダイオードから放出される光線は、同じ平均的な色
を有するが、異なるスペクトル波長を有する請求項3記載の照明システム。 - 【請求項6】 第2の発光ダイオード及び第3の発光ダイオードを更に含む
