- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.自動車内の着座ポジションに対応して、エアバッグ吹出口を含んだエアバ ッグシステムの作動を中止させる方法であって、 a:着座ポジション上方のルーフに1体以上のキャパシティカップリング乗員 センサーを提供するステップと、 b:該キャパシティカップリング乗員センサーを使用してその着座ポジション での乗員の存在または不在を検出するステップと、 c:その着座ポジションが利用されていなければエアバッグシステムの作動を 中止させるステップと、 d:その着座ポジションが利用されていれば前記エアバッグ吹出口への乗員の 近接度を検出するステップと、 e:その乗員の該エアバッグ吹出口までの近接度が所定の距離よりも短い場合 には前記エアバッグシステムの作動を中止させるステップと、選択的に、 f:前記近接度に応じてエアバッグ作動パラメータを修正し、エアバッグの膨 張力を調整するステップと、 を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 2.前記センサー提供ステップは2体のキャパシティカップリングセンサーの 提供を含んでおり、前記近接度検出ステップは該キャパシティカップリングセン サーの電圧出力値をデータプロセッサーに提供し、その電圧出力値を所定値と比 較して乗員ポジションを決定するステップとを含んでおり、該センサー提供ステ ップは一方のキャパシティカップリングセンサーを前記着座ポジションの中央か ら前方に提供し、他方をその後方に提供するステップを選択的に含んでいること を特徴とする請求項1記載の方法。 3.自動車内の着座ポジションに対応して、エアバッグ吹出口を含んだエアバ ッグシステムの作動を中止させる装置であって、 該着座ポジションの上方のルーフに近接して提供される1体以上のキャパ シティカップリング乗員センサーと、 該キャパシティカップリング乗員センサーを使用してその着座ポジションで の乗員の存在または不在を検出する手段と、 その着座ポジションが利用されていなければ前記エアバッグシステムの作動 を中止させる手段と、 その着座ポジションが利用されていれば前記エアバッグ吹出口への乗員の近 接度を検出するステップと、 その乗員の該エアバッグ吹出口までの近接度が所定の距離よりも短い場合に は前記エアバッグシステムの作動を中止させる手段と、選択的に、 前記近接度に応じてエアバッグ作動パラメータを修正し、エアバッグの膨張 力を調整する手段と、 を含んでいることを特徴とする装置。 4.前記1体以上のキャパシティカップリング乗員センサーは2体のキャパシ ティカップリングセンサーを含んでおり、前記近接度検出手段は該キャパシティ カップリングセンサーの電圧出力値をデータプロセッサーに提供し、その電圧出 力値を所定値と比較して乗員ポジションを決定する手段を含んでおり、選択的に 、一方のキャパシティカップリングセンサーを前記着座ポジションの中央から前 方に提供し、他方をその後方に提供することを特徴とする請求項3記載の装置。 5.キャパシティカップリングセンサーアレイであって、第1形状を有した第 1センサーと、第2形状を有した第2センサーとを含んでおり、該第1センサー と第2センサーはそれぞれの等電位線がオーバーラップするように提供されてお り、 前記第1形状と第2形状とは、円形、楕円形、正方形、長方形、三角形及び 5角以上の多角形とで成る群から選択されるものであり、選択的に、 本センサーアレイは自動車のルーフに近接して搭載され、選択的に、 前記第1センサーの長軸は前記第2センサーの長軸と垂直であり、選択的 に、 前記第1形状は長方形であり、前記第2形状は楕円形であり、選択的に、 前記自動車内で前記第1センサーは前記第2センサーの後方に提供される、 ことを特徴とするセンサーアレイ。 6.自動車乗員検出システムであって、1体以上のキャパシティカップリング センサーを含んでおり、該センサーはフレキシブルなコネクターに接着されて電 気的に接触するフレキシブルな回路ボードを含んでおり、選択的に、該センサー は自動車ルーフの曲線部に搭載される、ことを特徴とする検出システム。 7.キャパシティカップリングセンサーであって、同心的に配置された少なく とも3体の電極を含んでおり、各電極は駆動電極、接地ギャップ電極、及び受領 電極として利用可能であり、選択的に、 それら電極のエッジ間の間隔は非均等であり、選択的に、 本センサーは自動車の乗員検出システムに利用可能であり、選択的に、 本センサーは自動車ルーフに近接して搭載される、 ことを特徴とするセンサー。 8.ルーフ搭載用キャパシティカップリング乗員検出システムに利用される乗 員頭部の特徴決定方法であって、 a:3体以上のフリンジフィールドキャパシティカップリングセンサーを自動 車ルーフに提供するステップと、 b:各センサーに関して、センサーフリンジフィールドを利用することで前記 乗員頭部のセンサーへの近接度を決定するステップと、 c:各センサーに対する該近接度から前記頭部の略中心と配向性とを決定する ステップと、選択的に、 d:当初におよその頭部径を想定し、続いて、それらセンサーのサブセットを 利用することで頭部ポジションを決定してその頭部径を反復修正し、前記乗員頭 部の直径を決定するステップと、選択的に、 e:頭部ポジションと頭部サイズとから身体データを類推するステップと、を 含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 9.ルーフ搭載用キャパシティカップリング乗員検出システムであって、自動 車の乗員の瞬間的ポジションではなく平均ポジションを決定する手段を含んでお り、選択的に、 その平均ポジション決定手段は遅延回路を含んでおり、選択的に、 該遅延回路は無安定マルチバイブレータを含んでおり、選択的に、 該遅延回路は、ある状態が所定時間存在しなければその状態を報告させない 手段を含んでいる、 ことを特徴とするシステム。 10.自動車の着座ポジションの特徴を決定して分析する装置であって、ルーフ 搭載用キャパシティカップリングセンサーアレイと、そのアレイを利用して機能 を発揮する手段とを含んでおり、その機能とは、乗員の頭部加速度記録機能、自 動車の全乗員数を当局に通知する通知機能、自動車のエアコン調整機能、自動車 の音響調整機能、乗員の継時的記録機能、サイドミラー自動調整機能、シートポ ジション自動調整機能、シートヘッドレスト自動調整機能、自動車のイグニショ ンに所定時間以上キーを差し込まずに滞在する乗員が存在する場合のアラーム機 能、及び、照準装置の自動調整機能で成る群から選択される機能である、ことを 特徴とする装置。
