Abstract
537,809. Two-stroke engines; cylinders SOUZA, D. F., DE. Sept. 12, 1940, No. 14118 [Class 7 (ii)] A cylinder is formed of two or more partcylindrical sections with longitudinal bolting flanges between which are distance-pieces containing inlet and exhaust ports. A twopart cylinder with flanges 2 and distance pieces 3 with ports 4, 5 is shown in Fig. 1. The cylinder may be applied to a two-stroke engine having a pair of oppositely-moving pistons and crank shafts located at the ends of the cylinder remote from a central combustion chamber. The engine shown in Fig. 4 has two pairs of oppositely-moving pistons 9 and a central crankshaft 7 to which the whole of the pistons are connected indirectly. If preferred, two additional crankshafts may be located at the ends of the cylinder for connection to the outer pistons.
