Abstract

512,823. Oil engines. CHAPMAN, C. W., and PERKINS, Ltd., F. July 14, 1938, No. 20953. [Class 7 (iii)] The combustion chamber is formed by a compartment 17 connected to the cylinder by a port 20 and a second compartment 18 connected to the compartment 17 by a passage 26, the air rotating in opposite directions in the two compartments. An injector 13, disposed in the passage 26, delivers jets of fuel 28, 29 into the compartments. The piston may have a recess 31 opposite the port 20 and the inlet and exhaust valves 14, 15 may lie in shallow pockets in the head, the pockets being connected to the port 20 by depressions 32, 33. Alternative shapes of the port are shown by the chain lines 25, 24. The compartment 18 is spherical and closed by a removable cap 30 whereas the compartment 17 may be cylindrical or spherical and may be formed partly in a heat-insulated plug.
