Cylinders, construction of.-A combustion chamber h, formed on one side of the axis of the cylinder, has a uniform cross-section between the cylinder and the axes of the inlet and exhaust valves a, b, and is terminated by an unpenetrated wall h carried round adjacent to the peripheries of the valve heads. The valves a, b are coaxial, and in a horizontal engine the exhaust valve b is at the bottom of the cylinder. The igniter p is as near the centre of the charge as possible, and the remainder e of the cylinder end follows the curve of the spherical head of the piston d.
