Abstract

485,425. Power hammers. MENCK & HAMBROCK GES. July 21, 1937, No. 20213. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1936. [Class 83 (iv)] In a drop hammer operating on the Diesel cycle and of the type having a stepped piston the narrow part 1 of the piston is sufficiently long to prevent it leaving the lower walls w of the cylinder, and the annular space 2 below the large part p of the piston serves as a combustion chamber. Packing 9 maintains the extension 1 fluid tight in the lower part of the cylinder during part of the stroke, and channels 3 serve to establish communication between the lower part' of the cylinder and the annular space to assist scavenging. A cam surface 14 operates a trip lever 7, acting on the fuel pump to inject fuel into a channel leading to the injection point 13. An air inlet valve 7 and a suitably loaded outlet valve 8 are provided.
