Abstract

484,973. Pistons. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., and STEINER, H. Nov. 11, 1937, No. 30953. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The piston ring 19 nearest the pressure chamber has a height equal to or greater than half the piston stroke and is arranged to project beyond the end 7 of the slide surface 4 at the end of the in-stroke in order to protect the slide surface. The end of the ring may also extend beyond or be flush with the end 7 of the surface 4 at the end of the cut-stroke. The ring may be of L-section as shown or may be of the usual form and expanded by fluid pressure. The ring may be applied to a fuel injection pump operating piston 10 actuated by gas pressure derived from the cylinder of an internalcombustion engine.
