370,084. Fluid pressure engines. HOTHAM, W., Hainton, Day's Lane, Biddenham, Bedfordshire. Jan. 26, 1931, No. 2542. [Class 122 (iii).] Compound engines; t a nde m - cylinder engines.-The piston 1 of a single-cylinder engine is provided with an extension 2 of reduced diameter which works in an extension 3 of the main cylinder 4. The engine works compound. The steam &c. is admitted to the annular area of the piston 1 and exhausts through the valve to the lower side of the piston to effect the upstroke. The top of the cylinder 3 may be exposed to the atmosphere, to a further low-pressure cylinder or cylinders, or to a condenser, or it may act as an air compressor. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 6919/90 and 9326/05, [both in Class 122, Steam engines].
