425,708. Air compressors. JUNKERS, H., 21, Hauptmann Loeper Platz, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. Nov. 1, 1933, No. 30342. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Class 8 (i)] An internal-combustion engine air compressor has two free pistons 2, the smaller faces of which act in the internal combustion cylinder 1, and the larger faces of which act in the air compressor cylinders 5, 6. The annular spaces 11 and the pipe 12 contain a fixed mass of gas, the pressure of which is selected to ensure a constant inner dead centre of the pistons with variations in the length of stroke. A valve 13 ensures that the pressure in the pipe 12 does not rise above atmospheric pressure. In a modification the chamber 11 is connected by a non-return valve to the scavenging air receiver. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a similar air compressor with all the pistons of equal diameter and having a fixed ratio of compression to ensure a constant inner dead centre with varying strokes. A two stage air compressor of this type was also described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
