Abstract

537,424. Two-stroke engines. HURUM, F. Nov. 20, 1939, No. 30443. [Class 7 (ii)] A compound two-stroke engine comprises a pair of combustion cylinders 10, 10a having a crank displacement of 180 degrees, both cylinders exhausting alternately into a low pressure cylinder the piston of which is driven by a crankshaft 18 at twice the speed of the main crankshaft 12, the piston of the low-pressure cylinder reaching its inner dead centre when those of the combustion cylinders are remote from their dead centres. As shown, two lowpressure cylinders 15 are arranged one on each side of the cylinders 10, 10a and each crankshaft 18 also drives a scavenging pump 16. The exhaust valves of the combustion cylinders are closed before the scavenging pump pistons . complete their stroke.
