Abstract
407,072. Driving gear; cams. LEWINGTON, W. J., Branscombe, Gilbert Street, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. Sept. 6, 1932, No. 24818. [Class 7 (ii).] The pistons 5, 6 of opposed-cylinder engines and compressors drive a disc, wheel or the like 8 through cams or toothed members 13, 14 secured to the common piston rod 7, and similar members 12 within the sleeve 9 on which the disc 8 is mounted. Anti-friction rollers may be mounted in the surfaces. The piston-rod, preferably square in cross-section, passes through stuffing-boxes in the cylinder ends, such boxes enclosing a split metallic packing ring and a recess for anti-friction balls. Mixture induced from a carburetter 20 into the front ends ot the cylinders is compressed therein as the pistons execute their working strokes, and passes through valves 22, 23 into the combustion spaces when the exhaust valves 25, 26 open.
