Class 122(3) [Also in Groups XXVII and XXVIII] Opposed pistons a, b work in cylinders c disposed around an output shaft q having drums p with cam tracks o engaged by collars n on the pistons. The cam tracks o may give two or more piston reciprocations for each shaft rotation and may be arranged to give a phase displacement between the pistons a, b. The cylinder c may be formed in segments bolted together in a ring around the shaft q. A number of opposed piston units as described may be mounted on a common shaft or axially aligned and coupled shafts. As shown the invention is applied to an internal-combustion engine.
