Abstract

The rotary internal combustion engine has a rotating cylinder block (1) with five equally spaced cylinders (2). The pistons (6) have T section transverse slots (9) on their lower surfaces that engage matching sections (12) on the connecting rod (13). Each connecting rod is bolted to a bearing ring (16) which fits round the crankpin of the crankshaft. The stationary outer casing has three sets of inlet and outlet ports (24, 23) and three sparking plugs (22). A gear train between crankshaft and cylinder block drives the cylinder block at one fifth engine speed but in the opposite direction. As the engine rotates, each cylinder is aligned to inlet and exhaust ports and sparking plug in the correct sequence for the four stroke cycle.
