Abstract

1325445 I.C. engines; driving gear KALPAC ENG Ltd 5 Oct 1970 [4 Oct 1969] 48868/69 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A crank-shaft arrangement for a reciprocating piston I. C. engine, pump or compressor having a first piston 58, 59 and a second piston 64 reciprocable in respective pairs of opposed cylinders with their axes at right angles comprises a central crank-pin 41 for the piston 64 connected by webs 48, 49 between aligned crank-pins 42, 43 for the piston 58, 59. Aligned outer end portions of the crank-shaft are journalled in eccentric bores in respective discs 51, 52 journalled in housings 55 for rotation about their axis X-X which is the axis of the output or drive shaft 56 on one or each disc. In operation, the crank-shaft axis D-D, which is parallel to the X-X axis, revolves about the X-X axis. In an I. C. engine one piston is a power piston and the other piston a charge piston and the engine may include axially spaced arrangements of power and charge pistons with the pair of crank-shaft end portions (74, 82), Fig. 12 (not shown), of adjacent piston pairs being journalled in eccentric bores in a common disc (75). The eccentric bores in the common disc may be angularly spaced by 90 or 180 degrees. In prior art disclosed, Fig. 1 to 6 (not shown), the charge piston (19, 21) of an engine is guided by slide blocks (23, 24), Fig.6, (not shown), in which the outer crank-pins (26, 27) are journalled. An extension (32) of one of these crank-pins has a pinion (36) keyed eccentrically thereto which engages a ring gear (35) carried by an output shaft (34). The engine may operate on a two or four-stroke cycle with carburetion or compression ignition.
