Abstract

1460231 Semi-rotary piston machines R JAMES 10 June 1975 [10 June 1974] 24852/75 Heading F1F A semi-rotary I.C. engine has two curved pistons 15, 16 which oscillate on a shaft 10 and two crankshafts 22, 23 connected to the pistons so that piston 16 uncovers an exhaust port 14 before the piston 15 uncovers an inlet port 13. In one arrangement the cranks 22, 23 are in phase and gudgeon pin 32 is nearer the shaft 10 than gudgeon pin 31. In a modification the pins 31, 32 are equally spaced from the shaft 10 and the crank 28 is ahead of crank 27; and in a further arrangement the throw of crank 28 is greater than that of crank 27. The two crank-shafts carry meshing synchronizing gears 24, 25.
