Abstract
In its two-stroke form, the engine consists of a stationary cylindrical housing (1) with four radial blades (2-5), four inlet ports (6-9) and four exhaust ports (10-13). The rotor (18) has four blades (19-22) and is mounted on a shaft (23) running in bearings (26, 27) in the end covers (24, 25). The end of the rotor shaft (23a) is attached to a crank (28) which drives the output shaft (33) through the connecting rod (30) and crankpin (32). As the rotor oscillates, air is drawn in through the inlet ports and then driven through the transfer channels (14-17) to the other side of the blades, where it is, in turn, compressed, ignited, expanded and then expelled through the exhaust ports.
