1419043 Rotary positive-displacement machines J P GOTTHOLD and D C SILVA 24 Jan 1974 03448/74 Heading F1F A rotary positive-displacement machine, such as an internal combustion engine, of the intermittent-abutment type, comprises two pairs of mutually-oscillating vane-type pistons 6 which continuously rotate in only one direction and relatively oscillate in a harmonic manner, the relative movement being obtained by harmonic phasing means associated with each shaft 8 for a respective piston, each harmonic phasing means including a main bevel gear 9 fixed coaxially to endwall 4, a planet bevel gear 11 cooperating with gear 9 and mounted rotatably on a pin fixed to a ring housing 10 which is itself rotatably mounted on the respective shaft 8, and a toggle bar 12 rotatably inserted into a corresponding cylindrical recess in gear 11 and mounted by means of a sleeve on a pivot 13 perpendicular to the axes of shaft 8 and passing through the intersection of the axes of the bevel gears, the shaft 8 having an axial slot for toggle bar 12 to permit pivotal movement thereof. The ring housings 10 are inter-connected via gears 14 and shaft 15.
