Abstract
1276613 Rotary-piston machines AUDI NSU AUTO UNION AG and WANKEL GmbH 26 March 1970 [5 April 1969] 14736/70 Heading F1F An accentric-carrying shaft for a multi-cylinder rotary-piston machine having an odd number of cylinders, described as a three cylinder I. C. engine of Wankel type, with a housing made up of peripheral walls 5 of two-lobed epitrochoidal contour, end-walls 1, 2, and intermediate walls 3, 4 with the eccentric-carrying shaft 7 running through it, comprises a component for each cylinder arranged axially in line and secured together against relative rotation with two of the components, 13, 15, which are non-adjacent each other comprising an eccentric 8 with a bearing surface 16 on each side of it for mounting in bearings in an endwall or intermediate wall of the housing, and the shaft component joining the two non-adjacent components including only an eccentric 9. The connection between the components comprises self-centering serrated faces 17 and a pin 18 having threads of different pitch on its two ends 19, 20 which co-operate with complementary threads in the components 13, 15. The pin passes through a smooth bore in the component 14. A bore 24 in the component 15 permits the insertion of a tool to engage a polygonal socket 22 on the end 20 of the pin to assemble and dismantle the components. The bearings, except for one end bearing, are provided by flanges 23 which also carry the usual pinion 12 which meshes with the ring gear carried by the piston.
