Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the use of a reciprocating or rotating machine in the range from low speed to high speed, by providing two cylindrical end face cams facing each other in a cylinder and by providing recessed shafts for moving the cams in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:Cylindrical end face cams 3, 4 are provided in a cylinder 1 so that the cam-curved faces of the cams are in contact with each other. The cam 4 is coupled to the cylinder 1 by recessed shafts 5 so that the cam is reciprocated in the axial direction. The other cam 3 can rotate freely. When the machine is used as a motor, a fluid flows into a chamber B so that the cam 4 pushes the cam 3. When the machine is used as an engine, combustion and explosion are caused in the chamber B so that the came 4 pushes the cam 3. The structure and sealing of the reciprocating or rotary machine are thus simplified. The machine can be used as the engine or motor in the range from low speed to high speed.
