Abstract

881,430. Engine driving gear. NORTON TOOL CO. Ltd. April 8, 1960 [April 16, 1959], No. 13014/59. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII and XXIX] A motor comprising a shaft 14 on ball-bearings in end plates 10, 11 (Fig. 2, not shown), at least one reciprocating piston 27A, 27B driving or driven by the shaft, through an eccentric 15 rotating with the shaft and a ring 18, mounted on rollers 17 surrounding the eccentric, which has a chordal surface 21A, 21B corresponding to a parallel surface 32B in a groove 30B in each piston and separated therefrom by uncaged rollers 31 to allow the ring to move laterally. The pistons may be coaxial or three pistons may be radially mounted at 120 degree angles. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the piston end-piece 48 is provided with the external rollers 54, 55 between over hanging check pieces 56, 57 which are bolted to the sides of the ring 46 in order to pull the piston on its return stroke. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the piston 60 has cheek pieces 65, 66 which overlap rollers 70 disposed internally of the periphery of the eccentric ring 61 which ensures a positive piston return.
