Abstract

1,210,247. Balancing. V. HERON. Sept. 27, 1967, No.25045/70. Divided out of 1,210,245. Heading F1M. A rotationally balanced engine-compressor assembly has a crank-shaft 14, at least one cylinder, at least one piston 11, connected to the crank-shaft, a counter flywheel 25 and gearing 22, 23 inter-connecting the crank-shaft and counter flywheel so that they are forced to turn together at fixed speed ratios. At least one compressor element 12, 13 is driven from the crank-shaft by at least one non-yielding connection. The algebraic sum of the moments of inertia about axes parallel to the crank-shaft of all the rotating parts of the assembly each multiplied by the positive or negative ratio of its speed relative to the speed of the crank-shaft is approximately zero. As shown the compressor is a reciprocating compressor but to other types of compressor may be employed.
