Abstract

1,210,246. Balancing. V. HERON. Sept.27, 1967, No. 25044/70. Divided out of 1,210,245. Heading F1M. A rotationally balanced engine assembly has a crank-shaft 2, at least one cylinder, at least one piston 17 connected to the crank-shaft, at least one counter flywheel 8, 9 and gearing 3, 4, 5, interconnecting the crank-shaft and counter flywheel or counter flywheels so that they are forced to turn together at fixed speed ratios. An electric generator transmits power out of the engine assembly. The algebraic sum of the moments of inertia about axes parallel to the crank-shaft of all the parts geared together including the rotor 1 of the electric generator, each multiplied by the positive or negative ratio of its speed relative to the speed of the crank-shaft is approximately zero. In a modification (not shown) the rotor of the electric generator forms the counter flywheel.
