Abstract

1367831 Balancing piston engines KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDTDEUTZ AG 8 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 10837/72 Heading F1M In a reciprocating piston engine, second order mass-compensating means comprises two rotatable counter weights 1, 2 on shafts 3, 4 parallel to the crank-shaft (not shown) in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal centre plane of the engine, the shafts being coupled together by gear-wheels 5, 6 and to the crank-shaft by gearwheels 13, 14 so as to run at double the crankshaft speed, the gear-wheels 5, 6 being mounted adjacent an end of the engine and the counterweights 1, 2 being near the longitudinal centre of the engine. The shafts 3, 4 are preferably hollow. The engine may be an I. C. engine, e.g. a diesel engine.
