Abstract

An hydraulic piston motor is provided which is capable of delivering a high torque to an output shaft (21) while running at a uniform low speed. The motor has a rotor (20) mounted on the shaft (21). The rotor (20) has circumferential cams (26, 27, 28) and is surrounded by a housing defining a plurality of radial cylinders (22-25) equi-angularly spaced around the rotor (20). The cylinders (22-25) contain respective pistons (30-33) each of which has a part (34) adapted to cooperate with the circumferential surface of the rotor (20) defined by the cams (26, 27, 28). The rotor (20) has such a profile that, during each revolution of the rotor, the sum of the first derivatives of the curves of the working stroke displacements of the pistons (30- 33) with respect to rotor angle is of constant magnitude.
